Secrecy of the Installation 'Citation Needed' tag
editIn Oct 2017 I inserted content into the Secrecy of the installation sub-section of the Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Holton Heath topic, that added a link to the National Library of Scotland's Ordnance Survey map library.
In an edit of 18:52 14 Jan 2021, this was tagged as Citation Needed.
The guidance for the "cn" tag begins ... "To ensure that all Wikipedia content is verifiable, Wikipedia provides a means for anyone to question an uncited claim. If your work has been tagged, please provide a reliable source for the statement, and discuss if needed."
My content is a hyperlink to the website of the National Library of Scotland, one of the six legal deposit copyright libraries in the UK and Eire, and to a page there, which shows a side-by-side comparison of two editions of maps of the factory location published by the Ordnance Survey, which is the UK's official national mapping agency.
As a reliable reference to trustworthy sources, I am not sure how my hyperlink could be improved or a more appropriate citation given.
I have contacted the person who made this edit for clarification.
In the meantime, what is the consensus as to whether a citation needed tag here is justified?
My thanks,

- Its realiable for the map, but its not realible for the original analysis you do. The source doesn't say that, you deduce that by comparing the two maps. Horse Eye's Back (talk) 17:53, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- The statement is "the site's location was omitted from WW2 Ordnance Survey maps".
- Citing a WW2 OS map showing the site omitted is thus a reliable source.
- I'm unclear whether you are objecting to the citation or to the statement that the site was deliberately omitted from inter-war mapping.
- Perhaps you're suggesting the site not being mapped is due to a map error?
- Unless you can give me a clear and convincing indication of how you yourself would write a correct citation here, I am minded to revert your edit. However I will give it some time to see if a consensus from others emerges. MrEckLeckTick (talk) 19:49, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
