Talk:Royal Naval War College

Simon Harley what was the actual title of the post before the First World War, then? Is the Mackie source incorrect, then? Buckshot06 (talk) 07:15, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

The officer in command was referred to as "In Command of the R.N. War College" in the Navy List or addressed by the Admiralty as Vice Admiral Commanding, Royal Naval War College. Mackie supposedly used old Navy Lists so he must have known Director was incorrect for pre-WWII. The two are very different institutions anyway. Pre-1914 the War College was a separate command under a fairly senior flag officer and had a staff of 15. In the 1960s, for example, it was basically just a course at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich, with a staff of four, one of whom had the title "Director". —Simon Harley (Talk | Library). 09:35, 25 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
