Filming Locations

edit

I haven't yet found a citation, so I won't edit it yet, but an episode of season 5 (the 2nd one, I think) was definitely filmed at Skylands Manor in New Jersey's Ringwood State Park. The back patio of the building was used for Boris's back patio in a breakfast scene between Evan and Paige. I know this because I've stayed there annually since 2006. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acroyear (talkcontribs) 22:03, 6 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

? Is that just a typo "Freeport's charter COAT" in "Locations"...? (Dfoofnik away from PC) 2600:8807:480A:1900:5127:A300:A173:45B0 (talk) 08:31, 18 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Recurring Characters

edit

Should we add sections about Raj, Charlie or Divya's parents Purplebackpack89 (talk) 14:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

They aren't technically recurring characters yet, unless they appear in any more episodes. On the other hand, the Monk page has several recurring characters that only appeared once (such as Jack Monk and Jack Monk, Jr.). I say go for it, but take caution in doing so. Kevinbrogers (talk) 14:30, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Part of the reason I may go for it is that they are alluded to in several episodes they don't appear in Purplebackpack89 (talk) 15:03, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
That's true. I also have a feeling Charlie will return in this Thursday's episode, since Hank learned about his marriage at the end of last week's episode. Kevinbrogers (talk) 20:34, 9 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Adding charlie is definately needed. But Raj probably will not return after all look at the way the showed his character. I think it was just for everyone to see him. Divya's parents at this point would probably be too early. Tj21 (talk) 04:16, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Stupid Crystal ball gets in the way of me saying they'll be back. I'll write Charlie later this week. It'd be funny if somebody added Dieder Purplebackpack89 (talk) 04:23, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Ah, I don't like that rule. You might want to check the main page for Royal Pains at usanetwork.com to see if they have anything about Charlie in future synopses. I don't remember who Dieder is though... Kevinbrogers (talk) 14:24, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Dieder is Boris' manservant. He appears in a lot of episodes, but except for the one where he tells Evan off, he doesn't say much. Mostly he just carries Boris' towels and drinks. By the way, characters were consuming this article, so I moved them to Characters in Royal Pains —Preceding unsigned comment added by Purplebackpack89 (talkcontribs) 16:46, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh, I remember the character now. Sorry I undid the revision, I hadn't noticed the new article yet... I thought you were vandalizing the page or something. Sorry. Kevinbrogers (talk) 16:50, 10 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think we should probably add Boris since he is not one of the regular cast emmbers but definetly reaccuring. Also, I do think Henrey Winkler's character will be pretty regular sicne he was in that rap promo. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.173.150.52 (talk) 21:08, 12 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Also, Raj is pretty much recurring and I geuss you could say Jill's ex is too

I wish somebody would mention that Jill Casey was Dr. Jill Casey until she dated Hank for a summer and lost her diploma in a freak writing accident. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.0.17.162 (talk) 21:19, 7 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Can't exactly say the list is "out of date" because it's missing a recurring character who first appeared in the pilot: Ms. Newberg (Christine Ebersole), HankMed's first retainer, friend, mother figure, and later Eddie's paramour and the Lawsons' temporary landlady when Boris ousted them from the guesthouse. Should also include Libby and Tucker, Tucker's father (Andrew McCarthy), Paige's parents, Keller, Marissa, Dieter (spell that correctly, please) and Harper. If you want to get down to short term recurring characters who were part of multi-episode arcs, there's Jill's ex-husband and her brother, her nemesis Dr. Blair, Eric Kasabian, Boris' diabetic associate and his female assistant, etc. In short, you need criteria for inclusion, otherwise it turns into an example farm. Or, you could just exclude such a list entirely. The regular cast is much more important. 12.233.146.130 (talk) 02:32, 12 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Keeping Divya's Parents Out of the Loop

edit

I edited Divya's deatils, it originally said that she had to keep her new occupation hidden from her parents... but she divulged it to her parents in last week's episode, so i added "initially had to keep it hidden". Skiendog (talk) 00:06, 21 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Cast & characters

edit

The cast & characters section is poorly written! It hurt my brain just to try to read it.

Can someone knowledgeable about this show please rewrite the cast & characters section so it actually makes sense?

Thanks.75.92.219.30 (talk) 20:48, 4 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Add "ailments treated" sections to episode list?

edit

I'm thinking it would be fun to have a section in each episode summary titled something like "ailment treated" that could wiki-link to the page about that ailment. Something like the episode list for House Or maybe using the format used in the Carnivàle episode list for "Ben's Location" Thoughts? Bsammon (talk) 05:16, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is a general encyclopedia, limited to what independent reliable sources say about a subject.
What you are suggesting is a list of in-universe trivia, something that a general audience would not look for about every subject we cover. There are billions of lists we could add to various topics: the price of a Big Mac at McDonalds in every capital city in the world, the species of trees planted by the park service around the Statue of Liberty, the first line of dialogue in every episode of Star Trek, etc. All of these things have two things in common: independent reliable sources do not discuss them (in general articles about the main topic) and someone who is not already familiar with the topic who wants to know a bit about the topic isn't looking for that info. - SummerPhDv2.0 16:28, 12 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
I feel like you've just posted general advice, and not really a response to my specific idea. Did you look at the House episode list or the Carnivàle episode list that I referenced? What do you think of what's been done there? Do you think it's a bad idea for Carnivàle or House wiki pages, in the way it's been implemented there? Or do you think that it works for those shows, but wouldn't be a good fit for this one?
Bsammon (talk) 06:24, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'm definitely going toward general advice. To build this project, there are two options: follow policies/guidelines or do what someone else did somewhere else for some reason. The first leads to consistency, the latter to chaos.
Should we list movie release dates from multiple countries in the infobox or just the earliest release date? Do we list Taiwan as an independent country or as part of China? Maybe each episode of The Simpsons should list what Bart is writing on the chalkboard at the beginning and how the family sits on the couch. Maybe each episode of Star Trek should list new technology, planets and species in each episode. Maybe every episode of Veggietales should list the Bible verses we think are relevant. The posibilities are endless and mindnumbing.
In lots of cases, you can find web sources that will tell you (with varying degrees of reliability) everything you could possibly want to know about every episode of every show. Who was that guy briefly seen drinking coffee in the background of that episode of Qunicy, M.E.? There's likely a site that will tell you his name, how he ended up in the shot, what was really in the coffee, how many takes were required, what other shows that table was used in, the name of the coffee shop and thousands of other details general audiences aren't interested in, but dedicated fans might be. By following Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, we end up with consistency: listing credited, guest stars, omitting those not credited, including material relevant to a brief description of the plot, leaving out details. A four sentence plot summary might say a patient was seen for unusual ankle pain, not that they were a football coach who discovered the pain while shoveling snow, x-rays and a CT scan showed nothing, sarcoidosis was ruled out, he tested positive for gout, but it then turned out to be sarcoidosis complicating a stress fracture and his use of steroids wasn't helping.
If you dig through Wikipedia, you will find pages in various states. Some are nearly perfect and you could hardly go wrong by copying much of what they do. Others are beyond repair and should probably be scrapped and rewritten. Most are in the middle. Copying what they do will amplify the best and the worst of what they do, depending on how closely those articles follow our guidelines and how similar the situations really are. Maybe the names of boyfriends/girlfriends mentioned in episodes of Friends is similar to the names of patients in episodes of E.R.. Maybe not.
Our guidelines strongly disfavor lists of in-universe trivia. We are, however, invited to "ignore all rules", if and only if there is a good reason for it and a consensus to do so. I don't see that reason here. - SummerPhDv2.0 16:38, 16 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
