Town Hall on Stilts

Anyone got a usable picture of the WB Town hall?

School

The fact that WB has a secondary school is hardly notable, although the "top 100" thing is vaguely relevant. This bit needs improving with hard facts but I suppose is OK for a stub. The school itself has been around for yonks; the building is new, isn't it?

Canal

I'm moved the barely literate mention of the canal into the transport section. Ideally it needs a reference. If correct, is the canal the Wilts & Berks or a branch thereof? Rob Burbidge 10:42, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

Wilts & Berks. The nearby North Wilts canal might be considered a branch. It ran from the Wilts & Berks canal at Swindon (junction at "The Parade"?) to the Latton basin, at Cricklade. AndrewBall 01:53, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Twin Cities

Wootton Bassett is twinned with the cities of Rio De Janeiro (Brazil) and Monte Carlo (Principality of Monaco).

2009 Fire

Last revision says the railway station was burnt down. Only thing I heard was The Beaufort Arms (Pub), abandoned for a while, burnt down. While this is next to the rail line, there were no report of trains being affected, and there was no trace of the railway station before the fire. It was demolished many years ago. There is a goods siding, but this is just a line and a truck park; not flammable.

Bomb scare

Some inaccuracies: Only two houses were evacuated, it was police overreaction to a chemistry student; there was no bombmaking nor explosives or dangerous substances present. Royal Wootton Bassett

It is not Royal Wootton Bassett yet. The Prime Minister announced that "The town will become Royal Wootton Bassett later this year." [1] We should wait until this happens. Sam Blacketer (talk) 12:49, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. I have reverted it back to simply 'Wootton Bassett'. Until it actually comes into effect (in September 2011), it should remain as Wootton Bassett without the 'Royal'. The article mentions that Royal status has been granted and will come into effect. In my opinion this is enough until September. Chodges84 (talk) 18:43, 16 March 2011 (UTC)

Lyneham

Is the entire section relating to RAF Lyneham really required on this page? Surely a statement that the town is close to RAF Lyneham with a link to the RAF Lyneham page is sufficient? Third "royal" town

'Rye Royal', is a title, not the name of the town. Much like Hero City for example. Royal Tunbridge Wells, Royal Leamington Spa (And Wootton Bassett are actually called Royal ..., even if they are commonly known as Tunbridge Wells, Leamington or Bassett.
