Romanizations
editWhat is the logic behind writing the name in 조선글 and also in 국어의 로마자 표기법? This is a North Korean stadium, built and named and used by North Koreans. The South Korean Ministry of Education’s Romanization system has no logical function being associated with this edifice. Why use it here? Why not Romanize the name as the North Koreans would Romanize it and leave the southern system to southern things?
- Better yet, why is the English article "Rungrado" and not "Rungnado"? SWalkerTTU 09:30, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
I suspect vandalism. Someone changed the name to "The Goey Stadium". Since I am not familiar with editing on this site I will leave it to you guys to take care of it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.105.6.104 (talk) 00:49, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have three DPRK-printed English books beside me as I type. Each one of them romanizes the name of the island (and thus the stadium) with N. There is an illogical trend across Wikipedia to use the South Korean government romanization system for things of North Korean origin. I fail to see the logic. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.79.62.16 (talk) 03:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- Northern apologists aside, isn't it pronounced with an 'n'? SWalkerTTU (talk) 22:51, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
- Checking Revised Romanization of Korean, it should be Rungnado, even in Revised Romanization. SWalkerTTU (talk) 22:56, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
Executions
editWeren't a bunch of generals burned at the stake in the stadium back in the early 90's? Shouldn't that be mentioned? I'll see if I can find more info about it myself. Worldruler20 (talk) 09:54, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
- Yes that sounds familiar, the incident is mentioned in this article from the Telegraph: Train blast was 'a plot to kill North Korea's leader' Dancru1 (talk) 12:21, 10 November 2008 (UTC)
Sorry but this article says absolutly nothing about burning anyone in that stadium, i'll remove the remarks therefore until proper sources are found. 84.74.149.234 01:08, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I have undone (User talk:84.74.149.234)'s changes as the burning of the generals is clearly stated half way down the article. Please read the whole article before challenging citations or making changes to this article. I will look for further sources regarding this matter when I have time.Jamesbrown588 (talk) 05:02, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
So how is this article alone a credible source? who is mr. Sergey Soukhorukov? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.69.2.36 (talk) 17:52, 26 July 2018 (UTC)
Sergey Soukhorukov is not a credible source, the telegraph informed me that his whereabouts are unknown and he has not written for them since 2007. I doubt he was ever a real person. Western propaganda everywhere. The reference should be deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.69.2.36 (talk) 17:38, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
- "Western propaganda everywhere" in an page about North Korea? 50.24.57.1 (talk) 09:29, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
Football
editHas anyone got any evidence for the May Day Stadium actually being used for fotball? Certainly fifa.com's resulys listing show ost of the national team's games ar being played at Yanggakdo_Stadium or Kim_Il-sung_Stadium, recently at lest ~ I only went back a coupe of years. I presumr the May Day being reserved for mass games & one offs. The infobox lists DPRK national football team as a tennant. Anyone know the last tim they played there? 22:45, 20 September 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.0.190.123 (talk)
114,000 or 150,000?
editIt seems multiple editors have been going back and forth with different sources over the total seat count. Is there a definitive source we can use? Nelsonsfx (talk) 04:21, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
"Largest Stadium" claim
editThe page Strahov Stadium also claims to be the largest stadium and the capacity numbers appear to bear this out. Would it be reasonable to update this page's claim to "largest active stadium"? Or should the claim simply be removed altogether? BetatronRadiation (talk) 23:02, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
- The article states by ‘seated capacity’ of which Strahov only has 50,000ish. So I have altered the text to state ‘largest’ instead of ‘second largest’ as Wikipedia’s list of largest stadiums still lists this one to be the largest. As does every other source I have found. 2A10:D582:30A2:0:C9CF:2A45:96B7:6E6 (talk) 12:06, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
