Rusty and Coretta Scott King

edit

I would like to see more than anecdotal evidence that Rusty "dated" Coretta Scott King. Rusty's ex-wife Elsie (who was also acquainted with Ms. Scott during her time at Antioch) has confirmed to me (personal conversation, 2012-07-28) that Rusty and Ms. Scott were friends and that they occasionally danced together at Antioch Div Dances, but she doesn't think they "dated" in the conventional use of the term. I was a member of Rusty's household from 1952–64, a period encompassing the early Civil Rights Movement and the rise of Dr. King to prominance, and I cannot recall him ever mentioning Ms. Scott—and although Elsie mentioned her from time to time, she never said anything like, "Remember when you used to go out with her, dear?" I understand your concern here. However: the assertion is properly sourced to an article about Rusty by Gay Haldeman. Unless we have a reliable source which disputes it, it stays. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:51, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Rusty's Sons

edit

In 1952, Rusty married Elsie Jane Owen (1923–), daughter of G.E. Owen, professor of physics at Antioch College. Rusty was Elsie's third husband. Her first husband, Captain Max Eldon Liming (1922–43), was killed on a night bombing run over Germany. In 1945, Elsie married Sergeant Robert Lee Kelso (1921–63) and had two sons by him, John Owen Kelso (1946–) and Andrew Scott Kelso (1948–2011). Bob and Elsie were divorced in 1950. Rusty and Elsie had two sons, James Bruce Hevelin (1953–) and Will Hevelin (1955–), and in 1954, Rusty adopted John and Scott. Rusty and Elsie were divorced in 1974. Do we have any published sources for this? (My personal knowledge that you have good reason to know these things peels no parsnips if we don't have reliable published sources.) --Orange Mike | Talk 18:52, 6 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
