This page should not be speedily deleted because it is addressing a real problem both with the ambiguity of real world usage of the term "Ruthenian Catholic Church" over history and in outside publications, as well as the imprecise way that these terms have been used over the years (and still appear) on Wikipedia. There is no need to move Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church back to this page; it works just fine where it is, and its name there sets up nicely in parallel with the other Byzantine Rite Eastern Catholic Churches. What is the proper name of the Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church in the US?

In common parlance of people in the church and in law, it is the Byzantine Catholic Church. Period. Some people outside of this church have other ideas about what it should called. Some want to incorporte an ethnic delimitation - Ruthenian. Others want Ruthenian to hold to an archaic meaning including Ukrainianns, Rusynsm and, perhaps Byelorussians.

I protested the vandalism of an super editor who changed the name of the Eparchies of the Byzantine Catholic churches in the US, forcing the introduction of Ruthenian. This is inappropriate and has consequences. A google search of "byzantine catholic church" brings of the miniscule church in Greece. WIKI should stick to the name used by the people in the church and established in law, and avoid the names foisted by taxonomical zealots.

To clarify:

"Byzantine Catholic Church" superseded the "Greek Catholic Church" in the US decades ago. "Ruthenian" is ambiguous and not natural to the Church.

There is no formal grounds to designate of this Church, known in Austria Hungary as Greek Catholic, and later in the US as Byzantine Catholic, Ruthenian or Ruthenian Greek Catholic. In the US, the name that it uses, and which has been incorporated in law should be used: Byzantine Catholic Church. Other churches of the Byznaitne tradition - Melkite, Romaninan, Ukraininain, etc. may not like the tautonomy, and may wish an ethic delimiter to be forced on this church. The foregoing is true and correct. I concur with this editor about the name of the Byzantine Catholic Church. Since this is the English Wikipedia, the WP:COMMONNAME should be used, and not an arbitrary one imposed by a lone editor. 72.201.104.140 (talk) 05:33, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

The article Ruthenian Greek Catholic Church is not about just the RGCC in the United States. It's about the entire RGCC, which also includes an eparchy in the Ukraine and an apostolic exarchate in the Czech Republic. I understand that this amalgam of three more or less separate ecclesiastical structures is awkward, but it is what the Vatican has created, and to be clear, by far the largest component of the RGCC is the Ukrainian component (the Eparchy of Mukachevo) which has about twice as many members as the American component.
