URL
editShould figure out the URL and add it to the article somewhere. I think it might be https://ruwiki.ru/ but I do not want to add it yet in case it's wrong/original research. Can anyone confirm? –Novem Linguae (talk) 21:19, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- I believe you are right. It's certainly the first Russian hit for the term, and the page contains text consistent with the description of the project. — The Anome (talk) 22:57, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- According to a Russian source. It is the correct website of the page. https://www.ixbt.com/news/2023/06/27/v-rossii-zarabotal-ruviki--analog-russkojazychnoj-vikipedii.html 84.15.189.18 (talk) 08:17, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
- Says beta testing ends January 15 2024, checks out with news sources for me (domain originated Jan.15) 2603:6081:700:2E:A54E:A7FB:2697:5071 (talk) 21:02, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
Politician
editAccording to the Telegraph article, "The creation of the new service [...] was announced by a State Duma deputy from Putin’s political party." Is this Gorelkin, who previously referred to the creation of an 'ruwiki' in May? — The Anome (talk) 22:44, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Comparison of articles?
editI don’t speak Russian, but I think that a section that compares the differences in articles between the two projects would be useful. Victor Grigas (talk) 23:03, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- It would be very useful. There is already some mention of the changes and omissions in the sources already cited. — The Anome (talk) 10:31, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
WHOIS data
editA quick IP lookup and WHOIS search shows that Ruwiki indeed appears to be hosted in Russia, and that the netblock containing its servers is registered to "Autonomous non-profit organization Internet-encyclopedia RUWIKI; 125040, g. Moskva, Leningradskiy prospekt, 15-14", and routed via qrator.net (see https://bgp.he.net/AS197068)
Fascinatingly, unless I'm reading it wrong, "dig ns ruwiki.ru" suggests their DNS is hosted by Cloudflare. — The Anome (talk) 10:31, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
WMF ban
editShould the page include something about Medeyko's ban from WMF projects, as reported in the current Signpost (but obviously citing other sources)? It does seem notable to ban someone for Long-term abuse: creating a Wikipedia fork which includes stolen content from Commons as well
. It raises issues about whether it is possible to "steal" content from an open source, as opposed to not complying with licence conditions such as attribution, and it is most unusual for anyone to be blocked or banned for reading rather than editing Wikipedia. Certes (talk) 09:21, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- If they're complying with the license terms, they're not "stealing" it. — The Anome (talk) 12:31, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
Relevancy
editIs the Iranian government mention of their website relevant? — Karnataka talk 18:46, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Not directly. I've removed the following from the article: "Iranian government has a similar closed environment wiki look alike Wikisa.org.[1]". If this is the case, the Iranian fork probably deserves its own article. — The Anome (talk) 12:28, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Requested move 22 February 2024
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: moved to Ruwiki (Wikipedia fork). This RM proved to be a WP:NOTCURRENTTITLE situation: most participants agreed that a move was desirable, but the diversity of suggested destinations prevented opinions from coalescing around any specific one. Ruwiki and Ruwiki (Wikipedia fork) attracted the most significant support and conversation; about these two proposals, the discussion largely hinged on the question of whether the fork should be considered the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for Ruwiki. On the pro-PTOPIC side, it was noted that Google search results for "Ruwiki" predominantly point to the fork rather than to Russian Wikipedia; on the anti-PTOPIC side, sources were leveled to show that the "??wiki" abbreviation pattern was used in academic literature about different languages' Wikipedias. I don't see this question as having resulted in consensus, and in the absence of consensus for a primary topic, I believe it best to assume that no topic is primary. Consequently, I believe that a move to the disambiguated title is most aligned with the will of the discussion and the relevant policies. Ruwiki (website) → ? – (website) fails to disambiguate - Russian Wikipedia is also a website. "Ruwiki (fork)"? "2023 Russian Wikipedia fork"? * Pppery * it has begun... 17:55, 22 February 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. – robertsky (talk) 06:09, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- Support if nothing better maybe Ruwiki (established 2023). Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:21, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- I think I would prefer 2023 Russian Wikipedia fork (or maybe some other permutation of that). That's nicely ambiguous, as "fork" can refer to both the process and the result, and the article is as much about the original event as it is the resulting website. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:46, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
ruwiki.ru.Short, searchable, and unique. I believe we have quite few articles titled by websites. - Altenmann >talk 20:59, 22 February 2024 (UTC)- Works for me. * Pppery * it has begun...
- Ruwiki (Wikipedia fork) works for me, though I think the current disambiguator is fine. We have Ruwiki as a dab page already. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 23:35, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Move to Ruwiki, with a hatnote to Russian Wikipedia, per WP:ONEOTHER. 162 etc. (talk) 01:30, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- support I searched google and 99% hits are for the clone (and 1% for Ruby language wiki, who would have known:-). It appears that the second meaning is our internal slang, i.e., known for 0.001% of readers. - Altenmann >talk 01:53, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'd expect per long-term significance and the principal of least astonishment its not primary by long-term significance. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:28, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- I see no evidence for long-term significance for any other meaning. - Altenmann >talk 20:18, 23 February 2024 (UTC)

- Support to Ruwiki (Wikipedia fork). The current name is ambiguous as the nominator states, and moving to Ruwiki would break the pattern where "??wiki" redirects to the article about the corresponding Wikipedia. JIP | Talk 10:19, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- There is no such ??wiki pattern known among non-wikipedians. - Altenmann >talk 16:31, 23 February 2024 (UTC)
- I disagree. This sort of ??wiki abbreviation gets used in academic study of Wikipedia. And academics even do explicitly refer to Russian Wikipedia as "RuWiki" in their academic writing. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 02:15, 27 February 2024 (UTC)

Someone moved the page
editSomeone moved the page to Ruwiki (wiki). The wiki
disambiguation seems useless; both this Ruwiki and the other Ruwiki are wikis. Therefore, the disambiguation adds nothing compared to having only Ruwiki
as the title. Am I the only one who finds the title ambiguous? The title Ruwiki (wiki)
should in my opinion either not exist or be a redirect to the disambiguation page Ruwiki, and this should be moved to a title which is not ambiguous. --Stefan2 (talk) 21:25, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
