Location of Issuance and History

Although the S & H Green Stamps may have been invented and widely circulated in the USA, I beleve they were also circulated in CANADA as well, and the merchants that were participating were grocers and dry goods stores in the 1960's and the 1970's.

The practice in ONTARIO CANADA, went by the wayside when the Provincial(State) Gov't required that users of coupons and redemption systems had to pay TAXES on the merchandise redeemed, and the Retailers no longer found it beneficial to have the loyalty program running.

The program of "Canadian Tire" style "Money" coupons were introduced by other petroleum producers such as Pioneer Petroleums, but they have been replaced by an Affinity "Card" based mechanisim.

In Transactional analysis, members of therapy groups would refer to the practice of trading stamps when something undesirable happened: such as getting a "red stamp" when they got mad. After collecting enough red stamps, you might then feel entitled to go on a tirade or get drunk of something. Other colors were mentioned.
