Punctuation (or whatever it's called) of band's name

I (a Yank) am under the impression that the British don't include periods in their initialisms (e.g., "UK" as opposed to "U.S."). Thus, shouldn't the name of this band be written as SCUM? Indeed, that's how I found it in a BBC online news article about Peaches Geldof's death.
