Requested move

An administrator should rename this article to "S60", leaving behind a redirect, as the product name has changed.

As stated above, this article should most probably be titled either "Symbian Series 60", "S60" or some variant thereof. Leaving out the "Nokia", since not only Nokia have Series 60-based mobiles. -ribrsiq

Nokia S60S60 platformRationale: S60 is the real name of that piece of software, Nokia S60 is not a valid name. … Please share your opinion at Talk:Nokia S60. —Silvestre Zabala 20:35, 26 June 2006 (UTC) Withdrawn, see discussion. --User:Silvestre Zabala 20:25, 28 June 2006 (UTC) - copied from the entry on the WP:RM page

  • Strong Oppose. Detailed infomation of S60 and Symbian OS version numbers has been removed from Nokia S60 many times, so a new page was created to avoid yet another deletion of this hard-to-find valuable information (anyone attempting to download software for their S60 has to be aware of which version of Symbian OS their device uses due to compatability issues). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Xaje (talkcontribs) 15:14, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

why 176 x 208?

Why display resolution is 176 x 208 it don't have 3:4 ratio (div by 16 it 11:13?!!!)

why not somthing like

  • QQVGA 120 x 160 OR
  • QQSVGA 150 x 200 OR
  • QQXGA 192 x 256 OR
  • 180 x 240 (this one nice)
  • or even QVGA like PPC 240 x 320

Reply to above: Many higher-resolution phones are now out (April 2006), and no doubt the resolutions will continue to improve.

Question: Are all images from S60 devices copyright (including images of standard S60 icons), or can a screen dump of someone's personal device be used?

siemens

The article mentions a phone by Siemens :

Some devices, however, have non-standard resolutions, like the Siemens SX1, with 176x220.

yet, the list of manufacturers excludes them :

It is developed primarily by Nokia and licensed by them to other manufacturers including Lenovo, LG Electronics, Panasonic and Samsung.

I realise it says 'including', so it isn't wrong. I wonder if it's possible to have an extensive list? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Davidmaxwaterman (talkcontribs) 09:17, 30 April 2007 (UTC).

Merger with S60 supported devices discussion

S60 5th edition devices

I removed the Sony Ericsson Idou from the list of supported devices as it will not be running on the S60 platform but rather the upcoming open-source "Symbian Foundation operating system"[1].

I did, however, add the Samsung i8910 Omnia HD, which will be running S60 5th edition. Joshuaali (talk) 08:54, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

What is the current status of opensourcing the OS? Has "open-sourcing" completed?

What is the current status of opensourcing the OS? The article says that circa June 2008, Nokia "is currently in the process of open-sourcing both the S60 user-interface which Nokia developed and licensed and the newly acquired underlying Symbian OS)." Please write this in a way that will remain true, even if the article isn't updating quickly. Qualifying with a date would help... Jodi.a.schneider (talk) 12:58, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

My guess about the current status of Symbian licencing, backed by this http://symbian.nokia.com/blog/2011/04/04/not-open-source-just-open-for-business/, is that it never went open source as in a public project, and instead became a proprietary project developed in a way open source projects are developed by contributing companies solely. --vatzec 14:20, 28 April 2011 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vatzec (talkcontribs)

What is the NEW status of opensourcing Symbian?

The article still states that Symbian is being open-sourced but as I understand it, that all died with Nokia's change of direction. Someone who knows all the political details should update the article.

Symbian article

Pardon my ignorance, but when I did a research for Symbian Anna, I went directly to Symbian article. But I didn't found the informations, nor did it become clear to reach this article (S60) for it. Why aren't does merged? I know there's the difference between OS and platform, but, it should be clearer for the reader though. Khullah (talk) 02:17, 27 October 2011 (UTC)

What should I do?

Don't panic; deletions can take a little longer at Commons than they do on Wikipedia. This gives you an opportunity to contest the deletion (although please review Commons guidelines before doing so). The best way to contest this form of deletion is by posting on the image talk page.

  • If the image is non-free then you may need to upload it to Wikipedia (Commons does not allow fair use)
  • If the image isn't freely licensed and there is no fair use rationale then it cannot be uploaded or used.
  • If the image has already been deleted you may want to try Commons Undeletion Request

Windows Phone Open Source?

"open-source, non-Nokia, Windows Phone." - I don't think that is correct since iinm Windows Phone is not open-source.
