Major update

edit

I'm in the process of adding significant content to this article, as I work with this tool set in the context of a large sequencing project I work on (The Cancer Genome Atlas). The SAM/BAM file formats are our standard way to package large (re-)sequencing data sets, and SAMtools are the way we manipulate and work with these files. As there is so little traffic here, I expect little feedback, but would love to see some. --Srjefferys (talk) 23:31, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

The examples section could probably do with a little reformatting. I'm also considering a table with details of the options for each command, but that might be too explicitly replicating the details from the man page (although that is not simple to read or interpret). --Srjefferys (talk) 20:20, 25 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

I'm leaving lots of TODO: tags in the article itself. This may not be good style, but I want to be clear about the parts of the article that I have not verified. I plan on verifying and removing these as the article evolves, but if anyone else wants to verify and correct this, please do. Especially if there has been a lull with no activity (i.e. I was distracted by a new project...) --Srjefferys (talk) 20:34, 26 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

proposal: less tutorial-like character?

edit

Maybe the article should include less code examples, and be rather shortened a bit. Visitors looking on how to use SAMtools will probably not take code from wikipedia anyways. Ilikelifesciences (talk) 12:48, 24 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
