A fact from SC-21 (United States) appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 5 November 2008, and was viewed approximately 5,000 times (disclaimer) (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:

Hyphens in names
editI've read a lot of official publications in relation to this and the subsidiary programs. From what I can tell, pretty much everyone used hyphens to start with, so SC-21 almost always has a hyphen as that was the name that was used most often in the early days. However by 2000 or so, the DoD started replacing the hyphen from DD-21 and replacing it with a space (never DD21 but DD 21). Congress documents always use a hyphen, and most third-party commentators use a hyphen so you can argue that DD-21 etc is the WP:COMMONNAME even if DoD documents don't have a hyphen. I suspect it may be related to the fact that on the DoD website at least, it is clearly the house style not to hyphenate hull numbers, whereas here on Wikipedia we always do. I know that it's technically not a hull number, but it's close enough. :-) So I think there's a fair case for moving this article to SC-21, which would disambiguate it from the British SC21 program (which doesn't have a hyphen). 82.3.242.144 (talk) 23:17, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Images
editBe nice if someone could find some suitable images, it feels like cheating to recycle Zumwalt ones. The standard ones of DD-21 all seem to originate at United Defense rather than the US Navy, so I assume we can't use them. It would also be nice to have some of the concept diagrams if they're available - Friedman has several of them around p440. 82.3.242.144 (talk) 23:21, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with File:DD(X) Advanced Gun System.jpg
editThe image File:DD(X) Advanced Gun System.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
