Usage example

Giving a usage example is the easiest and most informative way to illustrate a computer program. This article is not trying to be an exaustive manual. I say it should stay; the fact that it can be used as a very limited instruction does not negate its usefulness in describing the program. Thue | talk 20:42, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, it exactly answered the questions I had. I would far rather see summaries of what a beastie is, with optional link to such instruction. Unix man pages are an example of the sillyness of such an approach - they drop you to the bottom of the bucket of the nitty gritty details, frequently not answering the 'what is this' question in the first place. Comparable systems

Is anyone aware of comparable ssh-based filesystems for non-linux operating systems? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Risacher (talk • contribs) 02:42, 4 January 2007 (UTC).

The nearest Windows equivalent I've found is webdrive ( www.webdrive.com ), which can connect to SFTP, FTP, and WEBDAV servers. It does include a caching layer, though, which means it reads/writes whole files and stores a copy on the local system. As for non-Linux *nixes, FUSE also runs on OS X, Solaris, and FreeBSD, so sshfs works on those OSes also. --199.67.51.116 22:56, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Approaches to SSHFS - Chart

  • Placed cygwin within it, wherever appropriate to do so.

Actually the chart has been tagged as unsourced for 2 1/2 years and, as you point out has some serious deficiencies, so I have removed it. - Ahunt (talk) 19:35, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
