There are quite a few misspellings, incorrect usages of grammar, and awkward constructions in this article. Furthermore, I think there are many superfluous links, such as "sand" as a link for "sand bank", not to mention link repetition. I've corrected some of the spelling errors, but it would be best for someone with nautical knowledge and a good grasp of grammar and spelling to make the other corrections.
- The tone of the article is not appropriate to an encyclopedia. It reads like an adventure story with colourful sentences such as "The crew now prayed that they would not be spotted" — where's the verifiable evidence to support such statements? The whole article needs to be rewritten to meet Wipidedia's standards. Jimmy Pitt (talk) 22:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- To add to the above comment, here are some other example of the story-like tone:
- "The Captain inquired with the chief engineer as to what the problem was, but to no avail."
- "Stamped on the cases was proudly announced ‘BRITAIN DELIVERS THE GOODS’ in defiance of Hitler’s aggressive war against Britain."
- "The crew were apprehensive, a lame duck, such as their predicament was easy pickings for enemy U-Boats and aircraft alike."
- "Steaming on slowly, Saturday turned into Sunday. Sunday 26 October would be a day that the crew of the English Trader would never forget."

Class A rating
editHaving just read this article for the first time, I feel it falls well short of an A quality rating for WikiProject Shipwrecks. Poor intro, bad grammar and lack of referencing to mention just some issues. I've therefore downgraded it to B. Socrates2008 (Talk) 11:08, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

Gun
editWhat gun did the English Trader have? I'm assuming it came under Defensively equipped merchant ship. GraemeLeggett (talk) 15:29, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
