Channels section restored

edit

I restored the Channels section to the article (diff). It was previously removed with the edit summary "minus promo" (diff), but the lists are not promotional in tone, and consist entirely of blue-links to highly relevant Wikipedia articles that are directly related to this topic. The lists also function as a valid navigational aid as per WP:LISTPURP. North America1000 14:51, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

By the way: the channels are also mentioned in a navigation template. The Banner talk 14:58, 19 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

Add channels of Viacom 18

edit

I think we should add channels from Viacom 18 too. Ramsoni322 (talk) 15:59, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Move the page to JioStar

edit

JioStar is the name used as title on official website. Jio has long history of naming it's product without any space like JioCinema JioSaavan, JioTV, JioChat and many more. you can check the full list at Jio Wikipedia page. Abdullateefsherani (talk) 07:21, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

First, you will need to read the message on your talk page as it relates to WP:COI. As far as the move, we go by what sources say. Funny how the company mentions the creation of its own Wikipedia page here, but it is also stated as Jio Star, not JioStar. --CNMall41 (talk) 07:58, 13 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Move this page to JioStar

edit

I tried to move Disney Star page to JioStar page, but Wiki didn't allow it, reason given that this page already exists. Hence, had to move to a this page, someone with more rights may try. Indedits (talk) 08:58, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

JioStar is a redirect, so you can't move to it. You can ask an administrator to do it for you at requested technical moves. Nyakase (talk ) 09:07, 15 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Move the page to JioStar.

edit

Someone again moved the page to Disney Star, with is the old name. Please move the page back to JioStar. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 02:24, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Read the section above - moving this without consensus or sources is disruptive. Ravensfire (talk) 02:33, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Are you dumb or something. There is a complete press release about the merger and the reanming of the company. And there even interview of company's vice chairman with Bloomberg with it is clearly mentioned it is JioStar now, do check that out. And here is link to the press release on the official new website of JioStar: https://www.jiostar.com/pdf/14112024-JV.pdf
Check or gathered some information before you do anything stupid or claim false allegations. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 03:41, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
The word is "dumb," not "dum" so I will pose the same question to you. Stop your disruption with these pages. --CNMall41 (talk) 04:03, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
@AngadSingh2004 stop the personal attacks and calmly discuss this with actual reliable, secondary sources supporting this. That's ALL that's being asked here and you're insulting people, forcing your way and basically trying to bully other editors. That doesn't work well. Do what's been asked of you here. This feels like something that you should be able to produce a good news source. Ravensfire (talk) 04:11, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Follow the instructions at WP:RSPM and open a Requested Moves discussion. There have been too many page moves for it recently to be considered as uncontroversial action. – robertsky (talk) 02:52, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

Requested move 19 November 2024

edit

Disney StarJioStar – Please place your rationale for the proposed move here. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 09:43, 19 November 2024 (UTC) — Relisting. Raladic (talk) 19:21, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

@AngadSingh2004 looks like you forgot to include a rationale for why the page should be moved (arguments based on points found in WP:Article Titles policy) RachelTensions (talk) 10:09, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Oppose move to JioStar, support move to Star India and support retaining current title. The company is named Star India Private Limited. "Star India" is a well-recognised and unambiguous name. The name "JioStar" has not yet been referenced officially so I don't think WP:NAMECHANGES applies. The only official use of the name is the website - jiostar.com. Even references by other sources are limited to mentioning the website. So the WP:COMMONNAME would then be either "Disney Star" or "Star India". Not good sources to prove otherwise. We are the Great (talk) 14:36, 19 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
For citing the rename, there are multiple (reliable) sources available, even though the youtube video could be considered one given it is published by Bloomberg, see WP:RSP#Bloomberg. ExclusiveEditor Notify Me! 05:32, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
That's what I am saying. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 09:16, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Support Oppose for now (delay renaming for a two weeks at least): Disney star itself is not a common name within most people, most of whom just know the platforms owned by them. The community within which it could be a commonname would be the investors and related ones, in which there would be a rapid dissemination of the information of renaming, especially for those concerned, and then this article will lose its perceived credibility for being 'old', 'not updated' and factually erroneous.
ExclusiveEditor Notify Me! 05:27, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose There's no reason to rush to change this, and no reason to believe the proposed name is the WP:COMMONNAME; not sure the official name has even been announced by the company yet. RachelTensions (talk) 11:28, 20 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello JioStar is a name officially confirmed by the media and the official website https://jiostar.com
However, as far as my knowledge JioStar is a joint venture created by Jio's Viacom 18 and Disney Star. Aastiksharma17 (talk) 08:29, 22 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
JioStar is a joint venture created by Jio's Viacom 18 and Disney Star.
If that's the case and "JioStar" is a joint venture between Viacom18 and Disney Star then a whole new article should be created for it (if notable), or a blurb about the joint venture be included on each of the parent's respective articles.
Rushing to change the name of this article before we've even established the basis of what the new company is seems unnecessary. RachelTensions (talk) 16:43, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
    Absolutely AngadSingh2004 (talk) 09:15, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose for now We should wait untill official announcement and reliable sources publish the news about it.

You can clearly see the use of JioStar as the company name. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 08:31, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Since conditions are met according to WP:NAMECHANGES, I support renaming, considering enough reliable sources are available. Although WP:SOCIALMEDIA is allowed, please try to support with secondary sources.
Alternatively, since Viacom 18 and Disney Star have merged to form joint venture, both the articles could be retired and a new article named JioStar could be created too. Coolduckbird (talk) 09:31, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
A new article could be created, but the registed company is still Star India Private Limited and Viacom18 still exists which hold the shares of JioStar/JV/'Star India Private Limited'so it is best to rename this article to JioStar form Disney Star (at was registered as 'Star India Private Limited' during its name as 'Disney Star') as Viacom18 page has been updated with the required information. AngadSingh2004 (talk) 10:06, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Maybe they'll soon re-register with a new name... Vestrian24Bio (TALK) 13:05, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Sorry if I missed it, but what independent reliable sources have been identified? — BarrelProof (talk) 19:29, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I found a few sources [1][2][3][4][5], but we should not rush to change this article's name. Notability must be considered. Coolduckbird (talk) 06:24, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment I don't care whether or not this article/talk page is moved, I just ask that if it is moved, please, page movers, leave a redirect when you move the article AND the article talk page. I just restored 18 redirect pages that were deleted as broken redirects because a redirect wasn't left the last time this talk page was moved. Please do not create dozens of broken redirects in the future by leaving a redirect behind if you move an article, both for the article and for the article talk page. I'm not sure why so many page movers don't do this because it just leaves broken redirects behind that either must be deleted or fixed. Liz Read! Talk! 18:03, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
    page movers... and admins... – robertsky (talk) 19:54, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think there is some kind of default behavior that does not create a redirect for the Talk page when an article and its Talk page are moved together (at least under some circumstances). — BarrelProof (talk) 21:20, 24 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Only when unchecking the create redirect option if I am not mistaken. – robertsky (talk) 06:58, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
I confirm that. Looking back at my own edit history, I notice one set of circumstances that leads to this phenomenon, which is a round-robin move. When one of the Talk pages doesn't already exist, the Talk page title that formerly existed ends up being simply deleted when the titles are swapped. I don't know whether the script-based method of doing round-robin moves prevents that. I have only done a few of round-robin moves, and I've done them manually. The instructions at WP:ROUNDROBIN do contain a sub-bullet of instructions about this, but not to a degree that I had fully understood and appreciated. — BarrelProof (talk) 15:53, 25 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Relisting comment: Relisting as there is still ongoing discussion of whether WP:NAMECHANGE is satisfied or if its too soon yet. Raladic (talk) 19:21, 26 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
