The result of the move request was: Moved to SUNY Brockport. Per consensus, the suggested alternative title seems to be the COMMONNAME. (closed by non-admin page mover) – robertsky (talk) 13:20, 16 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

The College at Brockport, State University of New YorkState University of New York Brockport – Official name change, which can be expected to be reflected in sources going forward. https://www.rochesterfirst.com/brockport/suny-brockport-officially-recognized-as-university/ Powers T 21:34, 1 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Supported, this is the official name of the school and should be reflected in the title 137.21.138.67 (talk) 19:51, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • general comment: WP:COMMONNAME trumps official name. —usernamekiran (talk) 13:01, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Move to SUNY Brockport. I think in this instance it's fairly clear that sources will move to the new name, even at this early stage, and some have already, e.g. [1][2][3]. However, that said, I'm not seeing the proposed long name "State University of New York Brockport" anywhere in sources, even in the "about us" page or the copyright notice at the bottom. It seems like the abbreviated form SUNY Brockport is both the official name and the WP:COMMONNAME. So that's where it should be moved to. Cheers  — Amakuru (talk) 22:27, 9 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Move to SUNY Brockport per WP:COMMONNAME (name most widely used) and WP:NAMECHANGES (name most widely used in reliable sources after the name has changed). The name SUNY Brockport is the name now used by the college [4], and is the name that has been used since 1948: [5]. The official name appears to have changed to THE COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT, STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK (the current article title) in 2005, though is still referred to, even by itself, as SUNY Brockport. We always prefer the WP:COMMONNAME over the WP:OFFICIAL name. In the press release provided by LtPowers it says: " The university will continue to be referred to as SUNY Brockport, however, its official state education title will be known as “State University of New York Brockport.”". Everything points to SUNY Brockport as being the appropriate title. SilkTork (talk) 19:20, 11 December 2022 (UTC)Reply

Article relies too much on official sources

This article relies too much on official sources, if anyone could suggest tips that could make this sound less like an advertisement, it'd be appreciated. Thanks! Henry Herrmann-Friedrich (talk) 00:55, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
