Talk:SVGALib

The 1998 starting date for svgalib is way off. I don't know exactly when it started, but by 1998 it would have been considered mostly obsolete. By 1998 most computers had enough RAM to comfortably support an X server, which was not the case when svgalib was popular. Someone needs to research the true historical timeline, which I believe started with a predecessor called "VGAlib". I don't know the details, but I do remember hacking together an svgalib driver for my video card sometime around 1995... Tcsetattr 04:22, 13 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

I went digging through old Slackware packages and the earliest svgalib I could find was 1.0, with timestamps in January 1994. 1.2 has a changelog with references to 0.x versions, but no dates, and it's not clear to me if that's vgalib or svgalib. 3mi1y (talk) 07:30, 16 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

svgalib is not connected exclusively to unix or linux. It runs on linux and freebsd. --mihai cartoaje
