English of Saat Phero Ki Hera Pherie

edit

Please tell me the English of Saat Phero Ki Hera Pherie? The program name is in Hindi language but I want to write the English meaning of Saat Phero Ki Hera Pherie.Zafar24Talk 20:08, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

Apparently it means "Seven rounds of monkey business". Since even English-language sources use the Hindi title and don't translate it into English, we should not provide our own translation in the article; that would be impermissible original research. Huon (talk) 21:48, 9 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Huon:So can I write "Seven rounds of monkey business" as translation.Zafar24Talk 00:21, 10 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Zafar24: Sorry for the late reply; I thought my above comment was clear enough. No, we should not write "Seven rounds of monkey business" in the article since, while that is (to my knowledge) a correct translation of "saat phero ki hera pherie", it's not the only correct translation. For example, "Seven coambulations of misbehaviour" would be equally correct, from a mere translation point of view. Neither, however, is an official translation, neither is used by reliable sources, neither is anything but my own original research. Such original research has no place on Wikipedia. If all English-language sources refer to the show as "Saat Phero Ki Hera Pherie", then that is how Wikipedia should refer to it, too, and not by a translation we made up ourselves. @Huon:You are wrong here. According to Wikipedia, we need references for translations of sentences and Wikipedia:OR not applies to translation of title of non-English show or movies. For example, see here: Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Nukkad, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Jijaji Chhat Par Hai, Belan Wali Bahu etc and there are many articles where you find translation of title of non English show or film.Zafar24Talk 16:09, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Huon:Please note that, it is just a transition of show/film title and it has nothing to do with Wikipedia Original Research. All people give same translation and for example above articles they also wrote translation, so there is no question of original research for translating a title.Zafar24Talk 16:25, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

You said that:

We should not provide our own translation in the article; that would be impermissible original research.

I agree But I and others editors are not providing translation in the article but we are only providing the translation of the subject that the article is based on, and here the subject is the title of show.Zafar24Talk 16:33, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

You agree we shouldn't provide our own translation, we're just providing our own translation? That makes no sense. Which "above articles" gave an English translation of the film title? There's a difference between translating a word and translating a name. I don't know what the Hindi word for "bush" might be, but I doubt the Hindi Wikipedia uses it to refer to George Bush the former US president, does it? Huon (talk) 19:22, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Huon: The Bush example you gave that also doesn't make sense, If we are reading George Bush article then We knows which bush we are referring to. Its just a title, please provide me link where Wikipedia are saying that we should not translate the title of show/film. And Here are films which have English translation : Silsila (film), Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Maine Pyar Kiya, Aashiqui, Saajan, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and there are billions of film which have English translation. Zafar24Talk 21:25, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Huon:Have you see that also Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Nukkad, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain!, Jijaji Chhat Par Hai, Belan Wali Bahu? Every Hindi show/film have English translation.Zafar24Talk 21:30, 25 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. If other articles give translations of titles that are not based on reliable sources but on original research, they should be removed. They shouldn't be used as an excuse for adding more original research to yet other articles. Huon (talk) 20:11, 26 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

About the 'question mark' in cast section

edit

@Cyphoidbomb: Please see the 'Recurring cast'. Some one added question mark there as cast. Please tell me as I need to know, this is allowed in Wikipedia? Zafar24Talk 17:42, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Zafar24: It's not very encyclopedic. I would probably remove it until we know who the actors are. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 18:17, 9 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
