Recommend keeping on Wikipedia

This stub has been categorized with other Wikipedia articles about Medieval defenses. It has been expanded slightly and now has an image. As part of Project Military History it should grow to adequate size over time. Durova 00:53, 11 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Purpose

edit

Should this article describe the purpose behind such long protuberances at the toe? I know I'm curious... FusionKnight 19:56, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, the obvious answer is so that it's easier to get their feet through the stirrups of their saddles, the same reason cowboy boots are pointed. Obviously, it's a practical feature that got blown out of proportion by the vagaries of fashion. They had different sabatons that they'd use if they expected to fight dismounted. Can't remember where I read this stuff, though, so for the time being, it'll have to stay off the article (officially, anyhow).Johnny Wishbone (talk) 17:25, 10 April 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, they were just following the current fashion: see Crakow (shoe). That article says that the pointy toes of Maximillian's sabatons could be unclipped for foot combat. Alansplodge (talk) 21:22, 23 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Sabaton the band

edit

I would suggest Sabaton (band) losing the suffix "band" and this page being renamed to something along the lines of "Sabaton (footwear)" or "Sabaton (armor)". Surely the band would be considered the larger and more visite wiki entry these days? --Chrill (talk) 11:12, 10 June 2016 (UTC)Reply

That would be a regional variation of popularity. I see from the Wikipedia page about the band that they've won awards, but only regionally. Also, I'd never heard of the band before today, but was well aware of the armour. --Rob Kelk 12:53, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

That may be true, the band is famous in large parts of Europe but not much so outside Europe. Are there ways to see the number of visits to a site? Perhaps a measure of how many click the link to Sabaton (the band) at the top of this page? --Chrill (talk) 23:20, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
