DNCE
editHi, all. Would someone who knows how to edit please add Santa Claus Is Coming to Town by DNCE. It's a non-album single on iTunes, and Sabrina Carpenter is a listed artist on it. (It already appears in DNCE's discography on Wikipedia.) Thanks so much!
Because I Liked a Boy
editHello,
According to Universal Music Germany in this link as well as Universal Music Canada in this link and this link, they classify "Because I Liked A Boy" as a single from Emails I Can't Send. I've gone over Wikipedia:Singles criteria and the first criteria that suggest a song is a single is "The song was referred to as a single by the record label releasing it". Also, the Official Charts Company listed it as a new single release in this link which could satisfy the second criteria in Wikipedia:Singles criteria "The song was referred to as a single by an authoritative, music-oriented media outlet". The song receiving a music video, a televised performance as well as appearing on several of Carpenter's setlist that don't include singles such as "Skinny Dipping", "Fast Times" and "Vicious" should also add to this. I would think that this should be pretty obvious that it is a single but user 62.98.85.114 keeps removing it as it has no radio date, no digital single, and no remixes. I've gone over the articles for all of the singles from Emails I Can't Send and from those "Fast Times" and "Vicious" have no remixes and "Nonsense" is the only single with a radio date. All others have digital singles but from my knowledge it is common for singles released simultaneously with an album or after to not have digital singles ("Nonsense" and "Feather"'s digital singles have their sped up version attached to it, no digital single with just the song). So I would like to hear what everyone else thinks. I think this is pretty sufficient to say "Because I Liked A Boy" is a single. Leafs33 (talk) 21:53, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hey! I definitely agree with you, it looks like the song should be listed a single. Although I would double check with @Ss112: as they seem to be the best person to deal with when it comes to charts, singles, etc. Maxwell Smart123321 22:30, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- In today's industry it's very hard to see how a song become exactly a single after the parent album release. The same thing has happen like 2 weeks ago with the song "Taste" that apparently has received radio support since Aug. 23 (secured of the high chart placements that outcomed the week after), but it's all that. The criteria needs to be re-arranged atp because how can be considered a single by just an article from the label that announces a music video release? It's been years and years since music video and single are become wrongly synonimous. IMO it's not correct. So what we have to do with visual albums, all the songs are songs only because the have mvs? To me "Because I Liked a Boy" don't respect the criteria because article from various outlets and a music video are insufficents to declare this stauts. --62.98.85.114 (talk) 22:47, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- Well, no offence but Wikipedia is not about YOU and your edits should definitely not be based on opinions. The criteria is there and there hasn't been an issue about it at all. Universal Music Canada, Universal Music Germany and Official Charts Company are all "authoritative, music-oriented media outlets". I suggest taking it up with the Singles Criteria talk page rather than edit warring here. Maxwell Smart123321 01:17, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Considering the label is the one releasing the song and promoting it, it makes perfect sense to me that them classifying it (three times) as a single should make it one. The music video article here on Wikipedia seems to indicate that music videos are a form of streaming so I guess the release date of the music video could be considered the song's release date. Especially since the Universal Music Germany link was from the release date of Emails I Can't Send and considering the song was not available before then it makes sense that 15 July 2022 is the release date of "Because I Liked a Boy". It really doesn't make sense to me as "Because I Liked a Boy" has seemed to receive more promotion than both "Fast Times" and "Vicious" as I mentioned with its televised performance and music video (even though Wikipedia:Singles criteria indicates that a music video release does not indicate a single release, it's still promotion). - I think the label calling it a single is about as authoritative as we can get. If the label that literally puts out the artist's music calls it a single, I don't see why we're questioning that based on some interpretation of Wikipedia's single criteria (which is neither policy nor a guideline, by the way). Here are some examples of similar cases to "Because I Liked a Boy"; post-album (or released simultaneously with the album) singles with no digital single, remixes or radio date that Wikipedia considers to be singles:
- "I Know the End by Phoebe Bridgers from Punisher
- "Psychofreak" and "Hasta los Dientes" by Camila Cabello from Familia
- "Male Fantasy" by Billie Eilish from Happier Than Ever
- "Body and Mind" and "I'll Call You Mine" by Girl in Red from If I Could Make It Go Quiet
- "Faded" by Lizzo from Lizzobangers
- "Fallen Fruit" by Lorde from Solar Power
- "To Be Human" by Marina from Love + Fear
- "Her" by Megan Thee Stallion from Traumazine
- "Loser" by Charlie Puth from Charlie
- "Smoke" by Caroline Polachek from Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
- "Rager Teenager!" by Troye Sivan from In a Dream
- "I Love Hollywood!" by Slayyyter from Starfucker
- "Uh Huh" by Tinashe from BB/Ang3l
I'm sure there are other examples beyond these one's but I think I've made my point that this is not a one-off case. Leafs33 (talk) 02:08, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- When a label says something is a single, there's no reasonable doubt it is one. The only question becomes whether it's through radio release, physical media, streaming, download, or any combination of these. Sometimes it takes digging to find those specifics. Regardless, I will say that having a music video doesn't always equate to being a single, and video premieres shouldn't be treated as automatic indicators of this when artist and label don't announce they're happening simultaneously. Okay so there are now 5 people saying that "Because I Liked a Boy" should be listed as a single compared to one person who disagrees, who has not responded in days. I think this is enough to say that it should be listed. Leafs33 (talk) 04:20, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
