IPA Pronunciation: Correct ending sound is t, not t̚
editI notice that the last character for pronunciation was changed from 't' to 't̚'. What does 't̚' mean? I don't see it on the pronunciation page. 24.26.128.185 (talk) 18:31, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, the 't' was a temporary treatment to transcribe 받침 "ㅅ" from jeot because I could not find anything for it. So googled 'IPA' along with "젓", then wiki dictionary has "젓뱅어" (jeotbaengeo), whoses IPA pronunciation is ˈʨʌt̚p͈ɛŋʌ[1]. From which I've got 'ㅅ' could be transcribed as t̚. --Appletrees (talk) 18:42, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- I have restored the IPA pronunciation. Hangul and IPA pronunciation serve different purposes. IPA pronunciation is only for pronunciation, not spelling. As an ending consonant (받침), 'ㅅ' is pronounced as 'ㄷ', which is pronounced as 't' in IPA. 24.26.128.185 (talk) 00:47, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- /t̚/ represents a /t/ without an audible release. Unreleased stops are very common in east Asian languages, but also in some contexts in English. In the case of Korean, syllable-final stops are pronounced this way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unreleased_stop, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_phonology

Literal meaning of Osari
editDoes the literal meaning of osari have to do with high tides or the month of May? 24.26.128.185 (talk) 03:12, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm.. according to Korean dictionary, '오' is related to the month of May.--Appletrees (talk) 14:39, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- How about the sari part? Does that refer to high tides? And does o + sari refer to high tides of May? 24.26.128.185 (talk) 14:53, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- Here are links regarding 'osari' in a Korean dictionary[2][3] the early catch of fish at high tide;unseasonably harvested crops
- As for sari, well I'm not sure, because the word has many disambiguous meanings. Among them, these are likely denoting the sari. vincinitymeasurementlivelihood--Appletrees (talk) 15:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- There was nothing to support the "seafood harvests" definition of osari, so that has been removed. 24.26.128.185 (talk) 15:14, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
- No, read these. http://kordic.empas.com/dicsearch/view.html?i=27701400

Jaha Details
editWhat are jaha, and what are the "specific areas" that they are caught in? 24.26.128.185 (talk) 19:29, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Jaha, literally means purple shrimp and I only translated the half of the original text at Korean wikipedia. The specific areas refers to the regions in bold text. --Appletrees (talk) 19:40, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- 자하젓(紫蝦-) - 초가을에 특정 지역에서 소량 어획되는 자하(紫蝦)로 담근 젓이며, 전라도에서 '고개미젓' 이라 불린다. 자하는 8-9월 서해안의 민물과 바닷물이 교차하는 일부 지역에서 소량 어획된다. 원래는 투명한 빛을 띄지만, 숙성되면 연보라빛이 나며 육질이 부드럽다. 자하젓은 충남 서천군의 특산품이다.

Page move to Sae-u jeot
editThe correct revised romanization for this food is Sae-u jeot. The hyphenation helps to distinguish between the "a-eu" and "ae-u" sounds. I'm not sure why there is a hyphen between Saeul-jeot, since "jeot" is a separate word. I suggest moving this article to "Sae-u jeot" to make the pronunciation more intuitive. The food is spelled "saeujeot" throughout the article without any hyphenation, so that should be updated whether moved or not.
