The result of the move request was: page moved. Consensus on Canterbury but not on St v Saint. So that can be discussed in a follow on nomination if anyone thinks they can get consensus. Vegaswikian (talk) 00:00, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Saint Andrews, New ZealandSt Andrews, Canterbury — Rather than just moving this page, I thought I'd ask through this formal process whether the article name is indeed correct. As far as I know, the place is called "St Andrews" and thus needs to be disambiguated from the Hamilton suburb. Is it in fact formally known as Saint Andrews? I think you're probably right about this. The place has very little web presence that I can find in a quick search, but Google calls it St Andrews, so spelling out the name does not seem to be an official disambiguator.  — Amakuru (talk) 21:57, 4 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • That church doesn't appear to be notable (i.e. won't have its own page). Even if it did, it would result in a different article name, as they use an apostrophe: "St Andrew's" Schwede66 15:48, 5 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment. The New Zealand Geographic Board, which sets spellings of names, uses "Saint Andrews": see here. (I hesitate to call this the "official" spelling, because there are disputes over whether we should call NZGB names "official". They are generally "official", though not "legal"—how's that?) For that reason, I'd be inclined to rename to Saint Andrews, Canterbury. That said, sometimes the more popular usage in other sources and in every day life doesn't comply with the NZGB spelling. Government institutions, including New Zealand Post, generally follow the NZGB spelling, though. If in doubt, I would go with the NZGB, but only if other sources are otherwise inconclusive.
