using Ascencion as diversion airport
editStrangely enough, the Ascencion airport (Wakefield) article states that it IS a diversion airport! Seems inconsistent.. 160.44.247.146 (talk) 12:12, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Possible Connections
editCurrent discussions and ideas are around the fact, that only WVB (Walvis Bay Airport) would be a suitable airport for the only direct flights to St. Helena airport with a fully loaded aircraft. WVB also has direct connections to Johannesburg and Cape Town. --Chtrede (talk) 10:07, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Runway legnth
editThe runway legnth should be entered as the current construction not proposed eventual length since the airport will initially open with the 150 meter shorter runway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.81.226.148 (talk) 05:05, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Not TuiFly
editAtlantic Star is flying with TUI Airlines Netherlands not the GErman TUIfly. See [1] --Chtrede (talk) 12:22, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
This article needs modernising and organising- it's very dated in places. The national audit office report looks interesting too. Secretlondon (talk) 18:54, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

Length and emphasis
editAs the airport is now operational, I feel that the detailed info about the construction work and the bidding for contracts will become increasingly academic, and some editing-down might now be appropriate, from someone close to the subject. Valetude (talk) 12:37, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
I am not in favour of losing well-written and verifiable material from the encyclopedia. A better option, I suggest, would be to move the material off into a separate article along the lines of the History of Saint Helena Airport. Greenshed (talk) 20:00, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
- I think we should acknowledge that there is such a thing as perishable data. I received sincere thanks for editing-out a lot of material on the JFK Jr. page about the wedding arrangements - what sort of flowers, what sort of food etc. - and I'm not sure people want to know, even now, which firms were bidding for the various airport building projects. Valetude (talk) 16:18, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
- I agree a bit with both of you. More information doesn't necessarily mean better, and we should keep in mind that deleted details aren't gone forever - they persist in the version history. But yes, I think quite a lot of the details about the design and construction of the airport should be moved and consolidated into one section. That's a similar article layout for airplanes on Wikipedia, where there is usually a Development section, which describes how the design and the project evolved. Part of the reason the article is in the state it is, I think, is that it was edited during the design and construction, so details about the development permeate several sections, which isn't helpful to the reader anymore. The pilot who landed the first plane on St. Helena was South African, Grant Brighton. 102.65.85.215 (talk) 06:00, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. ◢ Ganbaruby! (talk) 06:23, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
- The aircraft was South African so it's probably a safe assumption that the pilot was also. However his name is not really relevant. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:31, 13 May 2021 (UTC)
Runway repair work
editRoyal Mail, has for some time, claimed that there is ongoing runway repair work at this airport. I wonder if anyone can verify this, or whether Royal Mail has fallen behind schedule. --Minoa (talk) 00:05, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
Planned Go around.
editIt wasn’t actually an attempt to land, it was a low pass fly-by, hence the no landing gear. The first attempt to land (2nd approach) was aborted due to unexpected wind shear, making the second attempt (3rd approach) was successful. Basing your statements from a news outlet, such as the Guardian, is not a good idea. Multiple press firms branded this the world’s most useless airport, one of which was the Guardian, due to prolific misinformation, and “jumping on the bandwagon” behaviour. 92.40.215.19 (talk) 11:42, 24 November 2023 (UTC)
