The lemma is wrong. The medieval sources do not mention any promotion of the small monastery to the rank of an abbey. Its leaders always went by the title of provosts (Probst/Propst in German), not abbots. So, we should speak of a monastery, not of an abbey. Accordingly, I believe the article should be moved.
In the words of Sebastian Dachauer (1840, p. 393, for the full title see the German article):
„Gleich von dem Tode Siboto’s an wollte ungeachtet so mancher Schenkungen das Kloster am Madron dennoch nicht in größern Flor kommen; es wurde nie zur abteilichen Würde erhoben; Pröbste hießen seine Vorstände (...)“
