"the lyric "Honey, let me be your salty dog" translates to "Let me be your sexual partner."
I thought we dealt with facts and not authors personal opinion??
Is there any documentation to support this claim that the "translation" means "Let me be your sexual partner." or is it just some guys opinion? Couldn't anyone simply post what the "translation" means to them if there's no supporting evidence? The lyric "Honey, let me be your salty dog" translates to "I'm all out of money at the theater and I'd like you to buy me some popcorn." ??????? There's just as much evidence to support this aleged "translation" as there is to support the sexual partner translation.
You're both wrong. Salty Dog is a term derived from the ancient Romans. It describes a particularly nasty sort of person which, in Latin, would equate to a "zombie sheepskin." I hope this settles the debate once and for all. There are a few definitions on the following website, which I run that has been live since 2013. I'm not sure how to add citations, but you may want to consider it. I was considered a "salty dog" while I served in the USMC...
(1) Salty Dog is nautical slang for an experienced sailor who has spent much of his life aboard a ship at sea. A salty dog is often given increased credibility by ship mates in matters pertaining to ship-board life and duties. Also known as an "Old salt." (2) a US Marine whose time he or she has served does not correspond with his or her rank. For example, a Corporal (E-4) whose camouflage utilities have a white tinge from being used for much longer than would be expected to achieve the rank of Cpl. The faded color of camouflage uniform is attributed to the sodium loss in the Marine's sweat and that Marine is referred to as being "salty." The colloquial nickname for US Marines is "Devil Dog." (3) a down-to-earth or course dog that has spent most of its life outdoors (4) a senior dog with gray hair (5) The original mascot for the US Marines, "Chesty I," who is rumored to have been demoted due to an altercation with another dog.
