Dispute about describing the university as "Catholic" in the lede sentence
editThere is an ongoing dispute about whether we should describe the university as "Roman Catholic" in the lede sentence. The university explicitly identifies itself as Catholic. For example, in its list of "University Facts," the very first fact in the "What is Salve Regina?" section is "A Catholic, coeducational university founded by the Sisters of Mercy." The university is also a member of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities. So it doesn't make any sense to object to the idea that this is a Catholic university.
A specific objection that has been raised is that "Roman Catholic affiliation is already listed in side-bar." That objection doesn't hold water, either, because the infobox is explicitly created to summarize the most basic facts about the subject so of course there will be a lot of information there that overlaps with what's in the body of the article. That is intentional; it is not a mistake or a problem.
Are there other objections to this? ElKevbo (talk) 04:29, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for starting this, ElKevbo, though it really shouldn't be necessary for something so obvious and so trivial. What you say is entirely correct, so let's keep the description in the lead sentence. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 07:31, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
