I have just modified one external link on Sambo's Grave. Please take a moment to review my edit. If you have any questions, or need the bot to ignore the links, or the page altogether, please visit this simple FaQ for additional information. I made the following changes:

Hoax? Tourist attraction?
editThe lack of any contemporary reference suggests the possibility that this has always been a tourist attraction and is therefore possibly a hoax. Is there any earlier reference? Cassandra.
- Sadly, at that time the death of a slave or black cabin boy would have been considered unimportant and would not have been reported in any newspapers or books. The grave site is, however, notable in its own right whether you believe the story or not. Richerman (talk) 14:14, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
- The Lonsdale Magazine article discussing it dates from 1822. If it's a hoax it's a longstanding one. GrindtXX (talk) 19:03, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
Plaque
editI've just added some information about the main plaque being a modern replica. However, I've been unable to discover much about when and how the original was lost, or when it was replaced with the replica. The smaller explanatory plaque just says the original was "damaged & defaced"; but Pevsner 2009 says it was "shamefully stolen" (so I've put stolen in the article). No dates. The 2005 photo here shows it looking quite weathered, so I'd say it must have been replaced a few years before that; but the attention to detail in the reproduction suggests a modern attitude towards heritage. I'd guess maybe the 1990s. Does anyone have any more info? GrindtXX (talk) 18:58, 31 July 2020 (UTC)
