Prohibited holds
editThe article gives the impression that very few types of submission hold (apart from choke-holds) are excluded by the rules of Sambo. Having read the current international rules for sport Sambo I'm not sure about that. The rules in the English version (probably translated from Russian) are not always clear, but they seem to exclude quite a lot: headlocks and spine-locks of any kind; head and body scissors; finger and toe holds; twisting the foot by the heel (heel hooks and similar holds); knee bars; arm-locks behind the back; some holds on the hands; throwing the opponent using a submission hold; applying a submission hold with a jerk; any submission hold in a standing position. Maybe the rules have been made more restrictive for safety reasons. Overall I don't think the rules allow anything that isn't allowed in Brazilian Jujitsu, while they exclude all choke holds, which are allowed in both BJJ and Judo. If anyone understand the current rules better than I do (maybe using the Russian version) I hope they can clarify the position.81.146.36.5 (talk) 15:02, 7 March 2017 (UTC)

Requested move 11 November 2018
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: Consensus to not move, therefore, not moved. Still a well known racial term. (closed by non-admin page mover) Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 21:26, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
– Sambo is actually a martial art and combat sport, popular worldwide (at the current 2018 World Sambo Championships more than 500 athletes from 80 countries are participating). "Sambo" is also a character in The Story of Little Black Sambo, after which the racial term and a restaurant was named. It is clear what of these meanings is more prevalent. User:Tomcat7 (talk) 13:44, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- Comment: I have no strong view for or against, but for what it's worth, the page view statistics for the last 3 years are here. The martial arts article gets about twice as many views as any other single article on the disambiguation page. -- Dr Greg talk 14:50, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose gets 40% of views so fails the first half of WP:PT, in GBooks also fails the "Sambo is" test, so fails the second half of PT as well. In ictu oculi (talk) 22:19, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- Do you mean WP:PT? Where do you found the claim that 40 % of views an article must receive to be primary? There are actually enough books about Sambo, not all books can be found in Gbooks. What halves do you mean? WP:PT is only a section of Wikipedia:Disambiguation...User:Tomcat7 (talk) 10:37, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. As a racial term it is also well known. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 23:33, 11 November 2018 (UTC)
- So if it wasn't a racial term you would support the move?User:Tomcat7 (talk) 10:37, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose: Agree with Anthony Appleyard above (sadly it's still the case). --Woofboy (talk) 03:42, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
- Your vote is not objective.User:Tomcat7 (talk) 10:37, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- Support - Sambo is more well-known as a martial art than as a racial term. Hansen SebastianTalk 17:41, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. If anything is primary here as far as long-term significance is concerned it's definitely the racial term. I'm frankly amazed that anyone would think otherwise. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:56, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- In what way is it more important? For Americans only? Sambo is a term founded by Russians, and this American term is not notable. Note that only the English version of Sambo (racial term) exists, while there are 41 versions of the martial arts article.User:Tomcat7 (talk) 10:25, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
- The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Article issues and classification
edit- Article fails the criteria #1 states;
The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations. It has reliable sources, and any important or controversial material which is likely to be challenged is cited.
, and #4,The article is reasonably well-written.
- The article has "needing additional references" (July 2014), unsourced statements (September 2022), "external links" and "spam" cleanup (February 2014). Reassess to C-class.
External links
edit- There are ten entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.
- ELpoints #3) states:
Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
- LINKFARM states:
There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
- WP:ELMIN:
Minimize the number of links
