Talk:Samuel Benjamin Thompson

@FloridaArmy: this gives his name as "Samuel Benjamin Thompson" is there a reason this is listed as "Benjamin Thompson" - is that the name we think they went by? Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 20:02, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

Honestly I was trying to close some open windows and this was up on an edit window. I couldn't remember what I was doing on it and haven't looked at it for a while. I wasn't sure if it was a new edit or an old one so I saved so I wouldn't lose anything. I know you said you were going to work on these so if the name isn't right please just start your fresh and I will blank this one for deletion. I didn't mean to start this ahead of you and would rather you go ahead with it from a fresh start.FloridaArmy (talk) 20:06, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
User:KylieTastic I poked around a bit but I don't remember which document I used for the names to the officials buried there. As I recall there was some discrepancy in whether there were 9 or 10 legislators buried there? Anyway, the website for the cemetery goes with this spelling but I think NRHP would be more reliable. That said NRHP docs have lots of mistakes in them too.
@FloridaArmy: Ok I'll have a dig around the newspapers when I get time and see what I find. If it looks like it needs a Samuel I'll just move it, just wanted to check you had no other knowledge/sources you hadn't got around to adding yet, you've obviously done way more research in this area than I have. (plus I'm as a Brit and an Engineer, my American history is patchy). I had just bookmarked all the started stubs as a reminder and notice the discrepancy. I have no interest in being the article starter it's the end result I care about, after 7 years I still haven't got around to pushing an article I created, but thanks for the offer. • @FloridaArmy: I think he's a representative but it's not the clearest from that doc. P166 suggests he's a representative in a committee; P173 also has him as a rep; but some of others are confusing as its a mix of senate and house. I think it's just that it's the "Journal of the Senate" but has a lot of entries about the representatives, but I'm not 100%. Also the fact that I have found nothing in the papers suggests representative based on the others, not sure if representatives in general got little press, racism or a mix of both. User:KylieTastic This nicely laid out page has him a Representative from Richland County. Also gives some good backround on the period. FloridaArmy (talk) 21:43, 3 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
I can't find any indication of another legislator of the same name in SC so this must be the same person as also so close to the same time. KylieTastic (talk) 13:39, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the slow response. Looks okay to me but I haven't investigated deeply. FloridaArmy (talk) 22:23, 7 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

His race

edit

He was much bigger than the question of his race, but since he was a poliltician in the era of reconstruction, it seems useful to know. Pete unseth (talk) 01:46, 22 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
