There is a Samuel Jay Crumbine award given every year to the outstanding public health Dept. He was president of the school of medicine at the University of Kansas. He was also a Doctor in Dodge City, Kansas when Batt Masterson was Sheriff. He is the model for the character "Doc" on the radio and TV show "Gunsmoke".
