Costilla County gives Saturday, April 5, 1851, as the date of establishment. This may be the date of the first construction of the villages.
Sangres.com gives Wednesday, April 9, 1851, as the official date of establishment. This may be the date of some sort of proclamation when the first homes became habitable.
FortuneCity.com gives Saturday, June 21, 1851 as the date of dedication. This is said to be the Fiesta de San Luis, the patron saint of the community.
