• "Excepting the 1980 and 1998 Winter Olympics they have participated in every edition of the Winter Olympics since" Comma needed between "Olympics" and "they".

• Maybe you should use the demonym instead of "they".

• "As he was the lowest ranked competitor in the giant slalom he was last in the starting order on 20 February." Comma needed between "slalom" and "he".
• ".[8]," Remove the period before the reference.
