Notes
edit11v11.com Has Sandy Brown recorded as 19 apps with 9 goals, however Tottenham Hotspur Official Illustrated History 1882-95 book has recorded 20 apps with 10 goals for the 1900-01 season. Govvy (talk) 09:18, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- yeah fair enough, that site probably missed a goal or two, who knows really, another site had a different grand total as well, they were maybe including some tournaments that 11v11 didn't.
Also on page 25 it says Brown was born in Glenbuck and not Muirkirk, he scored 15 goals in the 1900-01 FA Cup season for Spurs setting a then new record. Ogden's Cigarettes released a set of cards of the football players that year, (Series 44, the series contained 150 photographs of football players.) There is one with a photo of Sandy Brown if you can find it, the image I am sure has an expired copyright. Govvy (talk) 16:20, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- Don't know if you're asking me to do this, I'd rather not as I'm unsure of the copyright rules on that, but feel free to upload it and see what the admins say.
- For the birthplace, I think the registration district was Muirkirk and Glenbuck is village in the district so either would be correct. What it had before was 1879 and Beith which is some distance away from Glenbuck, and it turned out to be a different person with that name. But Muirkirk/Glenbuck would be equivalent to St Pauli/Hamburg etc, so please change it if you like.
@Crowsus: Another problem, also on page 25, it says he went straight from Tottenham to Middlesborough in Autumn of 1901, no mention of going back to Portsmouth. Govvy (talk) 16:38, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that's right to be honest, as the version of the article I changed had a specific total for 1902-03 at Portsmouth, the numbers were impossible but it still came from somewhere, and I think 11v11 would have had some Middlesbrough stats for that season if he was there then. I presume you just said 1901 in error above? he was definitely still at spurs til summer 1902. What I have tried to find without success is a website for Portsmouth to get stats for that spell, and that would show if he did come back there between spurs and Middlesbrough or not. Hopefully something will be found so it will be right one way or another. Crowsus (talk) 20:29, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hmm, I could scan the page for you to see if you want. But I only told you whats written in black and white in the book, it's possible it could have mistakes. Govvy (talk) 20:35, 10 October 2019 (UTC)
- Well I believe you of course, and I do value those sort of books as a source. But if it says he left in 1901, that's definitely an error: he was the top scorer in 1901-02! Crowsus (talk) 09:43, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
- I went back and read just now, yep, maybe a miss-type, the stats in the back contradict the prose. I was wondering if I need a newer book!! heh. Govvy (talk) 13:41, 12 October 2019 (UTC)
