editI heard that this town is in three different time zones. Is this true, or even possible?
- It is right on the border of quite a few time zones, yes. It is right around Eastern Time, Central time, and a time zone that is always Eastern Standard (doesn't observe daylight saving time). It makes things very complicated and confusing. Luckily, legislation should help fix this this coming April (2006).
Effective April 2006, this phenomenon no longer exists. Santa Claus, Indiana and its neighboring towns are all on Central Time, and all observe daylight savings time.
Name of man who was Santa Clause for many years
editDoes anyone know the name of the man who sat as Santa Claus for many years -- 50s, 60s and maybe earlier -- in Santa Claus, Indiana?
Chuck Huppert Indianapolis cbh@iquest.net
You are likely referring to Jim Yellig, who portrayed Santa Claus at Santa Claus Land (now Holiday World) from 1946 until his death in the 1980's. Charles Howard was another famous Santa Claus associated with the town of Santa Claus. After he had only a handful of students at his first Santa School in Albion, New York, he held an enormously successful Santa School in Santa Claus, Indiana's Candy Castle in 1938 that received national publicity. Charles went on to national fame and became the first Santa in Macy's parade. Interestingly enough, Jim Yellig was a student in Charles Howard's Santa School in 1938.
==Local photographers== Any locals willing to grab a photo of the Lincoln/Santa billboard? It'd be an awesome thing to post for the Lincoln Boyhood Memorial Page. MrZaiustalk 16:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Charles Howard was not the first Macy's Parade Santa. The parade started in 1924. Howard was in the parade from 1948-1965. Jim Yellig passes away in 1984. He was replaced by Ray Jochum. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.23.115.66 (talk) 14:22, 30 July 2010 (UTC)
Santa Claus and its Name
editThe town of Santa Claus received its name in 1856 not 1849. Before then the town was called Santa Fe/Santa Fee
Please do not rewrite the story of how Santa Claus received its name unless you have references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.34.231.236 (talk) 10:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
Could we maybe get a picture of the Post Office application? Maybe check with the Santa Claus Museum or something. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.34.231.229 (talk) 20:31, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
The Post Office was created in 1856. The town kept the name Santafee (or Santa Fe) until at least 1896. (with the Santa Claus P.O. annotated) If you check the USGS topos you'll see that Santa Fe did not exist on maps prior the creation of the Santa Claus quadrangle. (1960) Before that it was included in the old Saint Meinrad quadrangle. Santa Claus is shown on these maps as early as 1900. Santa Fe is not shown on these maps. However, the location shown for Santa Claus in the Saint Meinrad quadrangle is the same location shown on the Santa Claus quadrangle as Santa Fe. The Santa Claus park was little more than a roadside attraction prior to the 60's. I'd say that at sometime, after the park became well known, the town name was shifted NW and the name Santa Fe was 'returned' to the original location.JeffersonClark (talk) 21:50, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

It just needs the completed town infobox to be B-class. |
