"Tora tora tora" towers

edit

I believe that the radio towers from which the Imperial Navy transmitted the message "Tora tora tora" (a prearranged signal ordering the attack on Pearl Harbor) still stand in Sasebo. If anyone has up-to-date information about this, it would make an interesting addition to the entry. Since the signal was actually "Niitaka yama nobore" ("Climb Mount Niitaka") it seems unlikely that "Tora tora tora towers" is actually a common nickname for these towers. Though perhaps young Japanese are not as familiar with the history as one might hope? --Yaush (talk) 22:33, 7 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

In 1987 I was in the US Navy and had the opportunity to visit Sasebo, Japan. While on a day tour to Nagasaki my small van (there weren't that many of us) stopped on a hill overlooking the three towers. To this day I still have the polaroid picture I took of the towers. I was told by the tour guide that Tora Tora Tora, meaning tiger tiger tiger, were the code words transmitted back to Japan by the group that bombed Pearl Harbor indicating that the mission was a success. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.228.228.30 (talk) 20:45, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

That makes rather more sense. --Yaush (talk) 03:23, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
