We can see the reason. Whilst Shishi would be the oldest son of `Uzzi and named after his great-grandfather, as shown in the Samaritan list, it was through a younger brother, Zerahiah, that the line which eventually produced Zadok started.3 It is interesting to note that Ezra's genealogy, as given in his book, is traced back to Zadok, thence following the Chronicles' list to Zerahiah, son of Uzi, and thence upward by the list in which both Samaritans and Jews agree, to Eleazar and Aaron.4 There are indications that the Jews may have obtained the list from the Samaritans, one of these being the description of the Temple as the house that Solomon built in Jerusalem '.4 This is a typical Samaritan glance askance at the Jerusalem Temple.
