Page Move
editCan this page not now be moved to SAW - The Ride or SAW: The Ride, according to consensus? Makron1n (talk) 17:47, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Sources.
editHey fellow 'Saw: The Ride' enthusiasts-to-be. I'm looking at citing sources for this article, does anyone know if the thorpe park website would be a suitable source? Or would I need other sources? (newspaper articles, for example) Felixshelton (talk) 21:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- To answer your question, by usual Wikipedia guidelines the main website isn't a source. This falls under notability as it usually has to be covered by other media outlets which we usually then use as sources. If you understand. --HELLØ ŦHERE 23:18, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Here are some examples. Of course, a google search can help you, but make sure they fall under reliable source guidelines. --HELLØ ŦHERE 23:24, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

- Well, we have no 'mods' - I'm an admin, though, (see here), and my edit summaries still stand. Please provide reliable third-party sources that back up the claims you make, and show that they are notable. For the record, no, fan sites are not reliable third-party sources, and that's especially true of your own (i.e. I haven't a clue of the quality of your site, but it's an even less reliable source for you). Incorrect Spelling in Title
editThe correct spelling is actually 'SAW - The Ride', not 'Saw: The Ride. Please change this and look more carefully at the name of an article in future. --82.34.173.149 (talk) 18:08, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Requested move
edit- The following discussion is an archived discussion of the proposal. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
Page moved to Saw – The Ride. There were two changes here. First was 'SAW' to 'Saw' which everyone supported. Then there was changing the '-' to a ':'. This had some support but was not supported by any of the park sources I could find. So only Saw was changed in lieu of relisting. If anyone can support the ':' being an official part of the name, then please renominate. Vegaswikian (talk) 19:15, 23 April 2011 (UTC)
SAW – The Ride → Saw: The Ride — "Saw" should not be all caps, as it is being used as a word, not an acronym (WP:CAPS); " - The Ride" to ": The Ride," as that is the more conventional formatting of subtitles. Trivialist (talk) 12:27, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- Support per MOS:TM. –CWenger (^ • @) 17:35, 16 April 2011 (UTC)
- Partial Support. I feel it should be moved to Saw – The Ride. I agree with your rationale for changing it from CAPS to lower, however I am not sure about changing the dash to a colon. Even though it may be more conventional to use a colon in the standard use, the dash is used on the official webpage for Saw and is also used on a variety of amusement park articles with "– The Ride" in their names (e.g. Batman Adventure – The Ride 2, Lethal Weapon – The Ride, Speed – The Ride). Designer
editPsywave: According to this link, it states:
- ... I must stress that I do not actually DESIGN rides myself. I come up with basic ideas for the concept, and it is then over to others (architects, civil engineers, structural & mechanical engineers, etc. etc.) to actually create a ride ...
The "designer" parameter at {{Infobox roller coaster}} represents the name of the company, group, or individual responsible for the engineering design of the ride. The engineer moves it from concept to an actual design, which is what this field is meant to represent. Wardley is only responsible for the concept and/or theme of each ride, and he clarifies this on his web site. Past discussions have also concluded not to list Wardley as the designer. Secondly, we should avoid YouTube citations like the one you cited, because it fails to meet the standards of a reliable source (see WP:VIDEOLINK). And finally, this is an interview, which is considered a primary source. That doesn't work. We need secondary source analysis to support your claim. RCDB is a good starting point, and the entry there for Saw doesn't list Wardley at all. -- GoneIn60 (talk) 13:17, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- Note: I dropped a notification of this discussion at WP:APARKS
- I did quick research on this and it looks like there are no other RS to back up the statement that Wardley is the designer for Saw - The Ride. Other secondary sources that can support this claim is Coasterpedia, although that is not an RS due to the fact it is user-generated. Another one I found is someone's SPS Google site. This source (reliability may be disputed) says that
...designer John Wardley is involved in [the] development.
but does not specifically say that he actually designed it. My thoughts so far is that he should not be included due to the fact that sources do not mention him as a designer. If a secondary source is found then I can support the re addition of the information. Harobouri • 🎢 • 🏗️ (he/him) 23:49, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for weighing in. My findings over the years have been similar. It is clear that Wardley helmed a lot of projects for Alton Towers, playing a significant role in park development. He deserves to be recognized for that, which we can do in prose within the article body at each ride, but I agree the title of designer in the infobox is not a good fit in the absence of support from secondary sources. --GoneIn60 (talk) 00:15, 11 January 2023 (UTC)
