Scene defined
editPlease feel free to edit this definition. Scene is harder to define than I thought. Mazeface 01:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
Someone needs to note that DWIGHT SWAIN originated the term Scene and Sequel in his Techniques of a Selling Writer. He defines scene as goal-conflict-setback.
Unless you're referring to a basic English definition of a sequence of continuous action in a play, movie, opera, or book.
Disambiguation needed
editThis is not how the word "scene" is usually used. This is a specialized term popularized by Dwight Swain and Jack Bickham, but it doesn't overlap with what "scene" usually means to writers (a section of narrative with no timeskips or sudden location changes, and probably no POV changes if in third person, unless in a romance novel). Should have "scene" begin with a disambiguation, with one page for "scene" in standard usage, and another for "scene and sequel". Philgoetz (talk) 16:20, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
LOL
editPattern of a scene
editShould these two paragraphs be under separate headings? Mazeface 01:41, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
I went ahead and separated the two paragraphs. Mazeface 13:42, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

Conflict of interest, self-promotion
editIn my recent revision of "Characteristics of scene," I cited my own article. I beleive it is appropriate given the context of the Wikipedia article, but defer to the concensus of other editors as to its retention. Mike Klaassen 10:37, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Proposed merge from French scenes
editThe French scenes article does not appear to merit a standalone article, and I feel that a merge here would be appropriate. I'll do this in a few days unless there are any objections. --Michig (talk) 08:53, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- AGREE — Robert Greer (talk) 02:10, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and merged as it didn't seem controversial.--Michig (talk) 06:06, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
References
editThere are two reference number ones under References. I don't have the expertise to fix the problem. TKM — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.101.122.50 (talk) 20:41, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
- 'twas the result of a conflict with the cumbersome system employed in the early version of the article. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 16:25, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Merger proposal
editI propose to merge Scene (filmmaking) into Scene (drama). It's best to have a single article for scene in drama, with a section for plays and a section for films. Jade Ten (talk) 16:52, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- I support this. Both articles are very small and the filmmaking one barely referenced. They should be merged. --LordPeterII (talk) 23:21, 11 February 2021 (UTC)
