Rewrite
editOK, I've started rewriting this article, but I don't have any great experience in medical parasitology, so if anyone wants to jump in, please do. I think it's a shame that wikipedia doesn't have a good article on such an important disease. Anilocra 19:18, 28 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- There is no need of you rewriting this article. It is only about the organism, not the disease. A very complete article on the disease is available on schistosomiasis. Rsabbatini, 28 Feb 05.
So there is! Sorry, I hadn't looked at it since you started working on it. Nice job... Anilocra 08:41, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Images
editThe sharp, hook-like structure in the upper right of the picture is used for tearing through tissues. This should be mentioned in the article. Also, the egg stage picture could stand to appear on the S. mansoni page as well. Fuzzform 03:55, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Omitted information?
editI just wanted to ask why the summary tries to describe the life-cycle and then omits the parasitism of gastropods between human-parasite stages(cycles) I think the text shouldnt say "....to fresh water, where larval stages can infect a new host by penetrating the skin...." but rather "...to fresh water, where eggs hatch and infect availible gastropods wherein the larvae grow until ready to go from gastropod to the water phase, and then infect a new host by penetrating the skin...." (or something in that order)
even in the summary the fact that the pressence of certain species of gastropod is a marker for at least the cleanliness of the water body in question, and therefore a very prerequesite for further infection, seems important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.41.77.254 (talk) 08:10, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
