Notability of inhabitants
editTo include people who have been seen to be non notable according to the Wikipedia notability guidelines (WP:NOTE and WP:BIO) is not the intention of those discussions, and comes across as trying to promote these people instead of trying to write a neutral, factual article. The other three "notable residents" have a Wikipedia article, so the difference is quite clear. Fram (talk) 06:29, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
What is a compromise for this?Sgt. bender (talk) 19:20, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- Umm, leaving them out? They're included or they're not, and there is no good reason to include them, while the AfD is a good reason not to include them. Fram (talk) 09:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- WP:NNC begs to differ. I can verify that they exist via reliable sources. Sgt. bender (talk) 20:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, no, it doesn't. It makes an exception for lists of people ("with the exception of lists of people"), and links to Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Lists of people for an explanation of that exception. It is clear that inclusion in a list of notable people from X should only be done for people who are notable on their own (according to the Wikipedia guidelines), and these persons have been determined not to be notable. Fram (talk) 06:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- And to move such a person from the list of notable residents to another section of the article, as you did with a quite non-descriptive edit summary, is obviously not the solution. I have removed the mentions again. Fram (talk) 06:57, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Are you sure you're reading the WP:NNC correctly? According to it, inclusion in an article needs to be based on relevance to the article at hand and not need to meet the requirements of a separate article. If you know that these people are relevant to the subject matter, please desist immediately and restore at least Mrs. Dutton to history, as I correctly changed. Sgt. bender (talk) 21:45, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Since we are having the same discussion on different pages, I'll refer to Talk:Schoharie Valley. Mrs. Dutton is not relevant for the history of Schoharie County, she has had no majot impact on the county... Fram (talk) 07:34, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but please re-state your area of expertise in Schoharie County History. Sgt. bender (talk) 20:38, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- That's not the way Wikipedia works. If you claim she did have an impact on the history of Schoharie County, you have to provide sources as evidence for your point. We already judged that she isn't notable in the general sense. You have not indicated any major, historicalimpact she had on Schoharie County, she just lives there. Which non-notable residents are we talking about anyway? I took a scroll into history, and couldn't find the names. I didn't know Mrs. Dutton personally, but it has been my experience that Holocaust victims just want some peace and privacy. Stryteler (talk) 20:08, 11 February 2012 (UTC)
Pronunciation?
editName probably should have a pronunciation added. - Jmabel | Talk 05:31, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Cherry Creek?
editArticle refers to immigrants settling near Cherry Creek, which as linked to refers to a locality in Chautauqua County in the far west of New York, not central New York where Schoharie is. Maybe Cherry Valley? (Not in Schoharie County but near it). SkilledShots (talk) 01:45, 14 January 2024 (UTC)
