"Tool icon"
editI quess that that floating "[x] This is a tool icon." on the article is vandalism. Could someone remove it please. --209.73.137.14 (talk) 20:25, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
- Sorry, not seeing it. Where is it on the page? ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 07:45, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Leeds and the world's first science fiction convention
editThe following link makes a very strong argument that the first convention actually was in Leeds, including referencing historical accounts on the matter. https://www.tinytickle.co.uk/worlds-first-science-fiction-convention/ and specifically https://www.tinytickle.co.uk/worlds-first-science-fiction-convention/#convention Should this article be updated to reflect this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.2.30.189 (talk • contribs) 15:31, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Requested move 9 March 2018
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: no consensus to move the page to the proposed title at this time, per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 20:36, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Science fiction convention → Science fiction and fantasy convention – This article discusses fantasy conventions in a short section, which, while unreferenced, seems correct to me: "Fantasy is usually considered alongside science fiction at conventions (the terms were used interchangeably for most of the period from 1926–1966). Conventions that are nominally science-fiction conventions such as Worldcon, are also fantasy conventions in all but name". I've created and redirected fantasy convention here (note we do have a separate Category:Fantasy conventions). I propose renaming of this article accordingly, also in line with my related RM at Science fiction fandom. On a related note, I think Category:Speculative fiction сonventions should be renamed to Category:Science fiction and fantasy conventions, something I will propose at CfD assuming this move goes through. PS. Please keep in mind this proposal is for renaming of this page, if you disagree with something else I said here, I'd suggest starting a discussion section, put preferably not objecting to this RM, which is solely about renaming this page by adding "and fantasy" to its name. - Support alternate move To Speculative fiction convention as there is already a category called that, and it encompasses sci-fi, fantasy and horror.ZXCVBNM (TALK) 13:44, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
- The category correctly has two heavily populated sub-categories, Science fiction conventions and Fantasy conventions, which are two different, even if related, genres. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:02, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose, the two genres are related, have cross-over fans, but are not the same topic. Each convention type has many Wikipedia articles, and there doesn't seem to be a need to develop a hybrid in this instance. Randy Kryn (talk) 14:08, 9 March 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:COMMONNAME. Nobody calls them "science fiction and fantasy conventions" except in rare discussions aimed at persons totally unfamiliar with SF, its history, its culture, etc. There is no article fantasy conventions because really, there are few if any fantasy-only conventions, other than the rare convention dedicated to a specific fantasy writer such as J.R.R. Tolkien, unless you count gatherings of the Mythopoeic Society. Most of the conventions which have been shoehorned into that category, with a bare handful of exceptions, are standard science fiction conventions such as fandom has been putting on for almost a century now; and at least one of the exceptions is a commercial operation putting on for-profit shows and calling them conventions. --Orange Mike | Talk 03:05, 10 March 2018 (UTC)
- oppose. This is unneeded. Science fiction is distinct from fantasy. Artix Kreiger (talk) 19:56, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
