Disputed

edit

I removed what I thought was dubious or non-encyclopedic information from the article, however it is being reverted with possibly misleading edit summaries. The section about the church is disputed, as mentioned by 62.164.248.220 (talk · contribs) (Philip Manser) above, and I agree, and think the unverifiable information should be removed. Also the source for the population is not specific enough to verify, and parts of the article are written in inappropriate tone: "highly sought after", and the paragraph about the garden centre. Something such as the "smallest battery hen farm in northern England" also needs a better reference.

One claim that seems particularly unlikely is the place name being derived from "Sconethorne": according to http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=53650 the name was "Scotstorn" of "Scotthorn", and at http://microsites.lincolnshire.gov.uk/upload/public/attachments/793/Dunholme_Nettleham__Scothern_Walk_Leaflet_printable_version.pdf it states that the name is from "from ‘ Scot’s or Scots’ thorn tree’." —Snigbrook 18:15, 27 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the disputed information, as the user who added it has not replied to this message or added reliable sources. —Snigbrook 18:02, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Just a Thought

edit

My birth name was Scothern. After some searching of the origin of my name I found the name originate from Nomandy, the village or town I cannot remember. the family name was originally spelt Scothern. the family males were known as swords for hire, hence the name was changed to to suit the language in England at that time. The Scothern's later-settled on the east coast of England where they remained. The Scothern's also emigrated to the US, and also settled on the east coast of the Us. I emigrated to Australia in 1956 and also settled on the east coast! Until around the 1980's there was no other Scothern's here in Aussie and as far as I know that family, is the only addition to settle here.

The above may be helpful to your research because the name town, Scothern, I believe is named after my original family name.
