NUMBER 8
edithttp://www.megastore.whufc.com/stores/westham/products/product_search.aspx
THE ABOVE LINK WILL PROVE HE IS NUMBER 8!!!!!!!THANK U -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.235.133 (talk) 23:35, June 13, 2007
- I'm not sure that this is 'proof' that Scott Parker will have squad number 8 for the 2007/2008 season any more than this is 'proof' that Dicks will have number 3 and Moore number 6! However, I don't think it is worth agonising over, it can be quickly corrected if needed when the squad numbers are officially announced. --Malcolmxl5 23:23, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
IF he is GOING to be number 8 why not do a full edit and change the West Ham page to update the squad numbers/names? Or alternatively wait (!) until West Ham announce official squad nos. As Parkers entry is being updated to include '8', West Ham's is being updated to remove '8' against Parker - talk about wasted effort!--Egghead06 05:50, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
- Good point. I'm inclined to wait until the squad numbers are announced to amend all squad numbers on all relevant pages. Let's get a few more comments and then we can say that the consensus is that we wait (or change it now). Anybody else want to comment? --Malcolmxl5 08:05, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
OH ITS NOT PROOF IS IT!!!WEST HAM ARE JUST BEING FUNNY BY SELLING THE SHIRT WITH PARKER NUMBER 8 ON THE BACK!!!!!YEA DATS A GOOD IDEA -- — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.235.133 (talk) 11:27, June 14, 2007
- Maybe they are! You must have missed the bit that said 'We accept no responsibility once a replica shirt or short has been printed, in the event that a player leaves the squad and/or his squad number changes'.
- Let's fact it they would print you a West Ham shirt with 'A JOLIE 69' if you paid them but that doesn't mean she'll be running around Upton Park next season! Still I'm not bothered to change it, we'll see when the new season starts--Egghead06 11:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Eggy - "Jolie signs for West Ham"! Very good! When are the squad numbers announced? Presumably next month.
80.42.235.133 - Do remember that we are trying to build a high quality encyclopedia here.
A difficulty with putting the shirt number 8 in the info box is that it is not now consistent with the squad list on the West Ham United article nor with the squad template at the bottom of every article about a member of the squad. These will be updated when the squad for the 2007/08 season is officially announced and the numbers shown on the players profile page on WHUFC.com [1].
The other issue is that if we go down the road of saying that the online store is 'proof' that Parker's squad number will be 8, then it's also 'proof' that Dicks (retired) will be number 3, Moore (dead) will be number 6, Harewood (been told he can leave) will be number 10, Tevez (is he staying?) will be number 32 and so on. The point here is that perhaps the online store is not such a reliable source. It is run by Kitbag Limited and not directly by WHUFC. Kitbag Limited do not decide the squad numbers! And as Eggy points out there is that little get out by Kitbag Limited in the terms and conditions.
I am inclined to leave the Parker's squad number blank for now and then you can update all of them when they are officially announced, which is only a few weeks away.

- I agree, wait until the squad numbers are officially released. Reason: We have not officially released Teddy yet, so he is still number 8. If he stays for one more season, it is the megastore which will have egg on thier faces, for selling a shirt with an incorrect number. There are plenty of rumours that Teddy and Roy Carroll will be released on a free, however the club has not officially announced it yet. The only official transfer so far, is that we have signed Scott Parker. As of this date, nobody has left West Ham yet.

- Just to confirm, the squad numbers are to be officially announced on 1 August. --Malcolmxl5 19:53, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Why 'tough tackling'?
He is described as 'tough tackling' in the opening paragraph. I have no why idea why this expression is so liberally used in many of the footballer bios on Wikipedia. It is hardly an encyclopedic term. If anything Parker has suffered from accusations of being on the lightweight side and his key attributes are probaly as a playmaker. So I am not sure why this was inserted and by whom. His agent? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.138.107.87 (talk) 13:19, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
