editAdded a redirect from Screen Recording, but perhaps it should be the other way around? "In accordance with wikipedia:naming conventions (precision) it's best to have an article at a well-defined, unambiguous term, with redirects from looser colloquial terms, rather than vice versa." I'm intrigued that Microsoft seems to be promoting the word blogcast for small viewable video interviews - BernFarr
Another blog related made up word. Shouldn't we wait until people start using it with some frequency before trying to enter it into wikipedia. Seems more like a campaign to promote this word than anything ... Anonymous
OpenGL
editAnybody know of a screencasting program that will record OpenGL other than FRAPS? FRAPS doesn't have the nice audio-recording capibilities of Camtasia and Captivate ... though it will record sound. But Camtasia and Captivate have nice features for countering the adverse effects of having a lousy/cheap mike, while with FRAPS you can hear every crackle and high-pitched hum. --Nerd42 02:23, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
DemoRecorder (Commercial program for Linux) can record OpenGL apps. At least the OpenGL-demo "glxgears" can be recorded with it. --ChristianLinhart 22:20, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
I don't know if I'm missing something here, but I've used Demo Builder to make a Screencast of an OpenGL application that was OK. I didn't know OpenGL was an issue. I didn't use sound - maybe that's the problem, but Demo Builder is also supposed to be able to do this. Argey 15:29, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
Screencasting Standards
editThis is an area in dire need of standardization. Does anyone have a good overview of applicable standards and their actual proliferation?
Screencast Software
editI'm upset that the list of screencasting software was removed. That was *massively* useful. The rest of the article, by comparison, is not.
See... List of Screen Recording Software
Wikipedia is not a market place, so I am glad someone removed the pricing. 11:31, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Could a link to List_of_screencasting_software be added to that section? mattclare (talk) 15:55, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Additional Resources

That is a great list. Couldn't we put it back, please? Peter S. 12:58, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I added a bunch of additional resources & put some pricing back. Though I agree Wikipedia is not a market place, when evaluating software options & reviews... Price is a very important consideration, also it's a pita to track down approximate vendor pricing. If this list gets too long, it could be reformatted & moved to another page like List_of_video_editing_software and Comparison_of_video_editing_software which has similar pricing and review information. I am not affiliated with any of these companies, but do have an interest in FOSS Screen Capture software and added corresponding sections. I'm rather new to editing Wikimedia, if this breaks any rules or style feel free to correct it & kindly point me in the right direction. -HTH Awildman 18:11, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Examples of CBT using Screencasting
edit- was Apologies for ShowMeDo self-promotion...
Sorry for the self-promotion, I'm learning as I go as to what is acceptable. Is it appropriate to add back the links I'd made for ScreenCastsOnline (http://screencastsonline.com/sco/) and MyScreenCast (http://myscreencast.com/forums/), as examples of CBT using screencasting? I have no connection with these two sites and I think they are good examples. User:ianozsvald 22:13, 30 July 2006 (BST)
I think it would be apropriate in an "Examples" section, I also included a link to Jon Udels original aricle & some of his examples. Awildman 21:30, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
External Links
edit- Comparison of screencasting software
- Articles, howtos, references and examples
- Commercial software and shareware - Windows only, unless specified
- Windows software from Microsoft
- Apple Mac OS X only
- Cross-platform, free or open source software (FOSS)
- Flash Flash Video-FLV resources - FOSS, Linux or cross-platform
- Screencast scripting (command line) FLV, SWF, ActionScript development tools
Will work on cleaning up the External Links according to policy & perhaps adding a separate page as was done with the List_of_video_editing_software and Comparison_of_video_editing_software which has similar pricing and review information. Are there better examples of similar pages? I feel strongly that this resource for Screen Recording be a guide for folks seeking information on howto create & produce screen recordings going forward. How to best organize the diverse collection of resources which overlaps with CBT, Presentation, Video, and Flash and eludes me some & I'm open for suggestions... -HTH Awildman 20:40, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

SentryWorks Abra
editAn anonymous user keeps adding a POV internal link for SentryWorks Abra in the "see also" section. I've warned the user several times, but it doesn't seem to be working. Am I right in this? Does anyone else have strong feelings either way? Wyatt Riot 16:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
- You're in the right. I do think that some guide to software is a good idea - but these guys are not going about it the right way at all... Snori 09:10, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Merge Proposal
editI suggest that Screen Casting be merged into Screencast. I've added the relevant merge tags already. 130.18.211.201 (talk) 17:37, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- I also suggest that a search for "screen casting" redirects to Screencast. 130.18.211.201 (talk) 17:42, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Origin of the term Screencast
editI recently deleted a part of the lead section about the origin of the term screencast. Two sources were given; both were newsgroup posts. As you know newsgroup posts are not reliable sources. However, before deleting the paragraph, I hesitated for a moment: The only thing that I needed to verify was the fact that the term screencast was used in the conversation. If it was, these sources would have been enough: Google a reputable company that is unlikely to tamper with the dates and contents of a discussion that it hosts. However, not even once the word "screencast" was used in the discussion. Hence, the sources are invalid and so the paragraph went. Fleet Command (talk) 20:23, 7 December 2010 (UTC)
Casting between devices
editCan this page be used for describing a more recent usage of the term 'casting' with mobile devices and other screens like Miracast, Google Cast, AirPlay and other technologies? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.38.204.122 (talk) 12:28, 24 December 2019 (UTC)
