History
editI was hoping to find a brief history of the company, but any mention of the beginnings has been carefully avoided, presumably for commercial reasons. I understand that Mark Goddard-Watts was the owner previous to Kingfisher, but a 1985 catalogue (2 photocopied sheets) shows "Proprietor - J I G Watts"
Suggest delete paragraph about stores from History - it's repeated in the section Stores. TiredOfLondon (talk) 19:40, 30 March 2017 (UTC)
Merge with Kingfisher?
editI think if you want to merge Screwfix in with Kingfisher then you would have to do the same with B&Q as they both belong to the same group. Be very careful of this logic though as that means when Mars or unilever etc take over other brands within a group to be consistent you will have to do the same so goodbye to Dr Pepper etc. Taking it a step further U2 are part of island records. Will you then roll up all Island Artists under one heading? In other words Screwfix, B&Q, U2, Dr Pepper etc are seperate entities that deserve their own entries. The Wiki should not seek to classify and group entries. That should be a principle.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.173.247 (talk) 18:54, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
First Trade Counter
editTechnically, the first Screwfix 'trade counter' in Yeovil was the old shop tacked on the side of the Houndstone warehouse. The shop was moved to the present site at Oxford Road (Pen Mill) in 2005 before the warehouse was demolished and was referred to thereafter as a Trade Counter.
Perhaps someone could Wikify that info and edit the page accordingly?
Have edited and applied it accordingly... thanks! :) Vie ascenseur (talk) 17:06, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
New to editing--don't wanna screw up, but this looks fishy. . .
editSteve Willett (Managing Director), John Gill (Financial Director), John Colley (Commercial Director),Dave Lowther (Operations Director), John Mewett (Marketing Director), Graham Bell (Trade Counters Director), Guy Eccles (HR Director), Charles Okafur (Angry Sales assistant), BOB Warren (General TWAT), Matt Margerine (On the fast-track to NOWHERE), Professer C W(Newbie), Elliott and Gemma Manzie (the short blonde couple)
and of course, our favourite JEFFO
Some of these titles are a bit ODD. Now, I'm in the US, and UK job titles might vary a bit, but someone might want to edit this for accuracy. Steamcorners (talk) 13:29, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
REPLY: Well, I certainly agree with that! I know that this doesn't solve the situation, but I have cleaned them up so they are in a table, and I have added a tag to the top, requesting verification and/or citations. Vie ascenseur (talk) 23:03, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
Odd
editThe last sentence in "History" is odd. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.65.2.31 (talk) 13:46, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Neutrality
editI tagged this article for neutrality because the "History" section seems to me like a long list of awards and achievements that tries to make this sound like the most innovative and successful company in existence. Surely it has had some controversies and poor reviews too? Particular sentences I don't like include "The innovative Screwfix Community" (sounds like subjective opinion) and "providing customers with an easier shopping experience" (is it even possible to verify such a claim?). Thanks for any input! —Noiratsi (talk) 13:04, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Is it possible to edit the section to remove puffery and uncited claims, perhaps giving a more balanced view?— Rod talk 14:28, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- I've gone through removing some more of the peacock phrases and adding references - hopefully this is better.— Rod talk 15:19, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Erbauer brand
editDoes anyone know if Erbauer is a private label brand of Screwfix? I couldn't find a website for them. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.255.172.246 (talk) 00:42, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Undue weight
editCould be shortened and a whole lot and be more neutrally voiced while doing so. 89.166.155.63 (talk) 14:42, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
