Alleged descendants of regicide Adrian Scroope or Scrope
editNotable descendants of Adrian Scrope include Professor Charles W. Woodworth, General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, Medal of Honor winner Lieutenant General Arthur MacArthur, and California Institute of Technology benefactor Amos G. Throop.
This has been removed because no evidence has been found that these persons mentioned are descended from the regicide, who disappears with his descendants from English history. The sole "evidence" is a family history created by some of the alleged descendants.

Have added sections
edit- External links (to which I moved the family website genealogy and added the stirnet genealogy
Also changed descendants to focus on notable 20th (and 21st century) descendants of some note (as in having considerable press coverage). While not deserving of their own entries perhaps, these scions continue to make their own names. Also added note on headship of the house, with related aristocratic alliances.
Changed the beginning of the history somewhat using new research (have to find that link) which points out that no relationship has been currently documented between the 11th century Scropes of the Welsh marches and the 12th-13th century Scropes in Yorkshire. (A relationship may exist, but has not been found). Too much of the narrative here relies on Burke's Peerage of the 19th century (which contains many forged pedigrees and faulty narratives). I am drawing upon criticism of those pedigrees by modern genealogists who are going over each link (father to son, mother to daughter) looking for documentary evidence from abbey charters, royal charters, chancery rolls, etc. Such research is reported on soc.genealogy.medieval and less publicly available mailing lists.
Also added many notes (too many?) pointing to relationships (or alleged relationships) or debunking claims of the same for the early Scropes.
My background: was seriously interested in this family, and compiled a modern genealogy of the family based on Burke's Landed Gentry 1965 and more recent sources, as well as Internet searches for current members.

Scrope-Grosvenor trial
editShouldn't there be a paragraph about the famous heraldry trial, or shouldn't it at least be mentioned in a sentence? If no one else does it and no one protests, I will do it once I get around to it (might take a month). --128.176.93.234 (talk) 09:42, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
