Merger proposal
editHello, I appreciate the effort that was invested in this article, but the overlap with the main article Scrum (software development) is quite large. Wouldn't it be possible to merge the "non-sprint"contents into that main article and the rest into Design sprint to make it more accessible to the typical audience? To me as a newcomer it is rather confusing to see so many articles with similar, but not consolidated, content... VMzB (talk) 09:27, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
- I proposed merging Scrum sprint into Scrum on 2021-10-26, but withdrew my proposal on 2022-01-21. I agree there currently is a large overlap between the articles, and there is room for improvement. However, I believe sprints are not just used in scrum, and deserves its own topic. Furthermore it is such a core concept of scrum and agile development that I believe a separate article is warranted. This article should be merged to Scrum (software development). It is not notable in its own right, and most of the content is overlapped. Madame Necker (talk) 04:05, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- I think further discussion of this proposal is warranted, considering the three opposing opinions on this talk page. Sauer202, please respond so we can open a dialogue and come to consensus. Penguino35 (talk) 16:53, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- I agree; it is not notable enough for its own page. While sprints may be used in other agile development, this page is about "Scrum sprints," and the content is built to discuss a sprint within the Scrum framework. The page takes more effort explaining and defining attributes of Scrum (details which are already covered at length on the Scrum page) than it does explaining Scrum sprints as an individual tool. If you deleted everything on this page discussing Scrum, there would only be a few sentences about the sprint--a topic that easily can be covered with a redirect to the Scrum page with "sprints" as a subheading. - Furthermore, sprints are notable because of their usage in the Scrum framework. They are not notable on their own even though some other agile project management systems apply the concept. Penguino35 (talk) 19:29, 27 September 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up Penguino35. I now support redirecting the current Scrum sprint to Scrum (software development). There is a overlap between the two articles, and the sprint is such a central part of scrum that I think it makes sense to collect the detailed information about scrum sprints there also. Also I have realised that sprints are examples of timeboxing in project management, and timeboxing in general as a broader topic (including scrum sprints) seems to be covered in the article about timeboxing. Design sprint, which was mentioned by VMzB, also seems to be a variant of timeboxing, so I added a link to it from the timeboxing article. Sauer202 (talk) 17:35, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- Merge – I propose to merge Scrum sprint into Scrum due to overlapping content already covered in the scrum article. Sauer202 (talk) 08:14, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- @VMzB, Penguino35, and Madame Necker: If there is no further discussion I plan to redirect to Scrum sprint to Scrum in about a week. Sauer202 (talk) 08:17, 15 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Sauer202:. My intention this week is to make sure we don't lose valuable copy from the scrum sprint article, so I am currently editing the two pages together to make sure we don't leave a gap. When I am finished, I'll merge the two pages. Penguino35 (talk) 19:24, 18 October 2022 (UTC)
