T-33
editThere were T-33s assigned or at least attached to the bomb units at Sculthorpe. I can look up the info and add it but if anyone has first hand info, they should add it here. I think
I was stationed there between 1989 and 1991
editI was stationed at RAF Sculthorpe from 89-91 with the USAF.

- Please forgive the local Norfolk dialect above; I shall translate for you.
- For a period around 1982-83 all of the Jaguars & support crew were at Sculthorpe whilst the RAF Coltishall runway was resurfaced.
- This photo from October 1982 shows one of those Jaguars at Sculthorpe. https://abpic.co.uk/pictures/view/1313942

KB-50J timeline queries
editHistory / Cold War (current text)
"During 1960 to 1962, the 47th performed aerial refuelling missions assigning Boeing KB-50J tankers to the 420th Air Refueling Squadron from 15 March 1960 to 22 June 1962. The KB-50s were specially equipped with two General Electric J47 turbojet engines that enabled the tanker aircraft to match the speed of the faster jet fighters during refuelling; however most of the KB-50s were more than fifteen years old, and were too slow to refuel the faster tactical jets of USAFE."
There is no citation to back-up these specific dates in 1960-62, meanwhile I can find photographic evidence of 420 ARS KB-50Js here in England dated May 1958 (RAF Alconbury Armed Forces Day) and May 1959 (RAF Alconbury & RAF Wethersfield Armed Forces Day(s), and Leeds/Bradford SSAFA show).
One of the earliest KB-50s (47-0170) might have been approaching 13 years age in 1960, but only if in fact it was delivered in 1947. The others were mostly 1948 and 1949 fiscal years, which is not necessarily the date they entered service. Hence 'most were more than 15 years old' is definitely a bit of a stretch.
Plus we have the small matter of this model being equipped with J47 jet engines to match the speed of faster jet fighters, and yet being too slow at the same time!
This paragraph needs editing for accuracy and clarity.

- PHOTOS of KB-29 & KB-50J
- FYI - Air-Britain has 13 well documented photos of Sculthorpe-based tankers on abpic.co.uk, but only one of these photos was taken at RAF Sculthorpe! In this case, the search criteria that successfully pulled them together was '420 ARS'.
