Height and weight errors
editThis shows the height being 5'1" and weight of 110lbs which is clearly off for a hockey player; can someone revert this back to what it should be? I'm not sure who changed it. 99.254.124.175 (talk) 02:57, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Born in Pickering, ON
editAccording to espn.com, nhl.com, and multiple web sources, Sean Avery was born in Canada. He was not born in Boston, MA, as is listed on this page, which currently can not be edited. Could someone change this?
He grew up and went to High school in Pickering, but I highly doubt he was born there as Pickering has no hospital. The closest one would be Ajax-Pickering hospital in Ajax Ontario. Or he was Born in Toronto. But his hometown would be Pickering. Not sure if this is really important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.243.59.126 (talk) 02:04, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- He may have been born in Pickering, but that does not mean he went to the high school in Pickering. He stated (on George Strombolopolos)his highest education was grade 9. In which case he attended Astral Drive Junior High school (gr 8-9) in Cole Harbour Nova Scotia until he moved to Owen Sound after being drafted to the OHL.
Tool?
edit"During the 2005 preseason was quoted as making derogatory remarks about French Canadian hockey players after Denis Gauthier of the Phoenix Coyotes took a cheap shot at Kings Foward Jeremy Roenick in a preseason game" I don't think that's very NPOV, especially since it was a clean hit, which Avery even admitted. So it's gone. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by AMac2002 (talk • contribs) 09:11, April 13, 2006.
The "Playing style" section was a poorly written joke that would have been mildly funny if it wasn't so wrong and full of glaring errors. Perhaps Wiki should implement some sort of basic intelligence test (2+2=?) before people are allowed to make edits. The section is gone. Scapermoya 23:00, 18 April 2006 (UTC)
Now Infamous Ice Sluts Game
editFirst, whether you think Sean Avery is a "prick" or not is irrelevant, this is an article about him as a hockey player, nothing more.
As for the Islander Ice Girl thing, please remove it. It was something completley blown out of proportion by one the local New York Newspapers. The girls' own quotes in the article even contradict what they claimed Lundquist and Avery of saying (or doing). I had friends at the game, who are big Isles fans as well, and big time NON-Avery fans who said the whole thing was bs and embarrassing considering the Isles had a big game coming up and this is what the Long Island Press was talking up. Avery and Lundquist were discussing what was going on during breaks and I'm sure they weren't being boyscouts with their language, but that's a conversation between them and the ref and not with them and the ice sluts. I'll delete it if I can. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 208.68.244.251 (talk) 17:05, 11 April 2007 (UTC).
Height
editHe's routinely listed (ESPN, Yahoo Sports, CBS Sportsline, Fox Sports, ect...) at 5'9". In fact, only his team, the New York Rangers, give him 5'10". I assume 5'10" is just the official billed height with his current team, but he's really only 5'9", so that needs to be corrected.
Spleen injury
editIt was erroneously reported that Avery was rushed to the hospital in full cardiac arrest when he actually walked in the hospital under his own power. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.186.82.106 (talk) 21:43, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
Sean Avery Rule
editAfter discussing the incident with Martin Brodeur, the following sentence is included: "Following the Rangers victory in Game 5 of the series, Avery reached for Brodeur's hand, but Brodeur did not reciprocate.".
Is this really relevant? Yes, it's a true statement, but it has nothing to do with the so-called rule, nor is it a formal league response. If no one objects, I'll delete the sentence. Sme3 (talk) 14:13, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
Guess I forgot to go back and delete the sentence. Seeing that it was recently modified/clarified, someone obviously believes it is relevant. I still think it isn't. Show of hands? sme3 (talk) 01:20, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- It is a sign of sportsmanship, and an incident such as this is IMO notable, especially since it got a whole lot of press coverage. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 12:26, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, it is a sign of sportsmanship (or lack of sportsmanship), and it alludes to the relationship between the two as a result of this - and other - incidents. However, it doesn't really have anything to do with The Sean Avery Rule. This is why I proposed deleting it. sme3 (talk) 20:26, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's also worth noting that he said something like, "I guess tubby forgot to shake my hand" when questioned about it later.
Protection
editFor obvious reasons, I stuck a 3 day semi-protect on the article. --Smashvilletalk 18:53, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Dion Phaneuf comments
editWhile most definatly article worthy having half the article devoted to it is way way to much. A paragraph would suffice. Edkollin (talk) 09:48, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed, and reduced. I mean, I really dislike Sean Avery, but come on, that was a crazy WP:UNDUE violation. Grsz11 06:36, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Was screening of Brodeur illegal?
editThere's been some back-and-forth over the statement beginning "while not illegal..." referring to Avery's screening of Brodeur. I think I've addressed the issue by changing the phrase to "While not an explicit rules violation". Previously, the "unsportsmanlike" rules were up to interpretation. The league did not really add or change a rule, they merely clarified an existing one to specifically mention actions such as Avery's. I believe the phrasing I put in should suffice until a consensus is reached on this page. sme3 (talk) 19:58, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Formatting and cleanup. Just making note of it here seeing as it was unclear. --Limxzero (talk) 15:25, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
BLP overcoverage
editI've tagged the article as not being neutral due to the gigantic, all-negative controversies section. — SamX‧☎‧✎‧S 15:19, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I believe Avery was best known for being a very controversial player, was he not? What subsections do you propose we remove? --NeilN talk to me 15:23, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
I don't claim to be very knowledgable on this topic and I'm not exactly sure how to go about this, but the article definitely speaks of this (except without the huge legal mess). Again, I'm not very knowledgable on this, so feel free to remove the tag if you think otherwise. — SamX‧☎‧✎‧S 15:25, 21 August 2013 (UTC)- Just looking through google news reveals a whole bunch of exactly what you're talking about, so I'll remove the tag. — SamX‧☎‧✎‧S 15:33, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- I really dislike those Foundation tags. They lock articles for over a year and give no indication to editors what the issues are. Anyways, I've removed the unproven allegations and the rumor stuff. --NeilN talk to me 15:37, 21 August 2013 (UTC)
- Agreed, and thanks for sorting this out. — SamX‧☎‧✎‧S 15:39, 21 August 2013 (UTC)

Is Avery gay?
editThere seems to be a persistent rumor that he is gay, and engaged to openly gay man Andy Cohen. The two are friends, and may have helped the rumor along in a joking manner. The rumor has gained traction due to Avery's own very vocal gay advocacy. But given his long history of dating very attractive women, it seems likely that this is bogus. The statement that he is definitively gay needs to be removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.160.1.128 (talk) 06:54, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Sean Avery comments about Kadri hit and Fortino allegations
editUser:Bizzle26 has added improperly sourced comments 3 times now. He has a right to be WP:BOLD, but per WP:BRD, his edits were reverted (by me) and should be discussed. As I said in my edit summary, the specific derogatory comments he is claiming are not supported by the sources he provides. Only a single news outlet is actually reporting these allegations, unclearly. At what capacity this should be added is unclear and does not appear to be WP:NOTABLE enough for inclusion, WP:NOTNEWS, too much WP:DETAIL. Vaselineeeeeeee★★★ 16:04, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
- I have to agree with the above. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:14, 16 April 2019 (UTC)
